It's not quite as bad as I thought it might be. I thought it would be another of those "with 24 hours to go, Ant discovers the engine is wrong - can Mike find another Rover V8 quickly?" Type shows. You know, fake peril and all that.

I liked the Escort Cosworth episode where Ant rebuilt the turbo. When he talked about how he used to clean engine parts in his mums dishwasher, I did allow myself a little chuckle at that. That said you will never beat the Ford Capri episode where Eds aerosol respray went badly wrong!

Sky News's coverage of motorists stuck in their cars overnight in heavy snow on the M74 in Lanarkshire - mountain rescue teams called to check on their welfare.

Approx 7 seconds on Sky News as opposed to the 24 hour rolling coverage when a nanocentimetre of snow lands anywhere within 100 miles of the M25 area.

"There were a couple of Jocks stuck in their cars on some road somewhere north of Watford overnight. We think they're OK........Princess Charlotte's nursery snack today will be either banana or apple. Over to our female Royal child under 8 correspondent Samantha Sycophant-Smythe who has a report on which goes better with the dress Charlotte is wearing..."

i liked the turbo bit

I dont like the bit where Ant seems impervious to the known effects of contaminated engine oil on bare skin

conveniently brushed over the shaft balance bit which would render the whole home turbo rebuild as cost ineffective compared to swapping direct for a properly* rebuilt unit

Relatives like in Yorkshite and run a private bus service. bit of a nightmare yesterday afternoon herding them all back home again. roads blocked, trucks jack knifed

and one school trip that the school insisted should go ahead despite severe weather warnings was struggling to repatriate the ickle trasures

On the Wheeler Dealers sub topic:

All the new (Ant) episodes have been shown in the USA and here in Australia.
Yes, it is different. Will I keep watching it? Yes I will.
It may not be as good as it was with Edd, but it is still way better than all those American shows where shouty fat blokes put stupidly large engines in muscle cars and go drag racing against another shop and then have a completely staged fight afterwards. Or ones where tattooed twats chop the rooves on nice classics, paint them black and put massive wheels and airbags under them and give them back to the owner after completely trashing the tyres, whilst call them “dawg”.

To that end, I say LONG LIVE WHEELER DEALERS!

This is my all time favourite episode.  Because I was thinking there is no polishing your way out of a paintjob like that, I know because I've done them and tried!  So if he comes back and its looking like factory then i'm calling magic of television bullshit.  But sure enough he polished and polished and it still looked wank, that's when I thought hey, this is pretty true to life.

I don't mind wheeler dealers, it's not bad car TV, my current favourite american show is Kindig Customs or Bitchin' Rides, the quality of workmanship is top notch, there is far too many generic car shows featuring hipster twats though.

In one of the later ones he’s changing the lifters on a Mitsubishi gto. It’s a transverse v6 and he’s changing the ones on the front bank then says “you just need to do the same for the rear bank”

What the rear bank you can’t even see never mind get a hand on? They just brushed over that bit.

What was that one with Jodie Kidd, where you had the two mechanics and the "Money Man" whose character was obviously to be a total bellend and look as unimpressed as possible at everything anyone else did.

They did one where they were given a Maserati Ghibli and had to make it do 200mph, so they did a top speed run on a Rolling Road and then presented it as a 200mph car - fuck right off!

It was rage-inducingly bad
