Datsuncog's Heaps: Sept 2023 - Another Year's T-Met Exemption Certificate...

Datsuncog

Recommended Posts

I moved to the Lake District in 2013 - these days the Knockagh road doesn't seem quite so hilly!

I do still have the 1100, it came off the road for a lot of (terrible) welding in 2012 and I drove it across to England on New Years Day 2014. Since then I've done very little with it, mechanically it's still on the button, possibly something to do with 3 years of sustained thrashing I gave it, but the rear arches and front inner wings aren't too clever, nor is the paintwork i did in my parent's carport with a £40 gun and a £50 compressor...

This was it about 18 months ago, it looks the same now, the Amazon doesn't!

That's fantastic, brilliant to see an 1100 on a Northern Ireland plate - and even though it may need some tiny* repairs, it's a survivor nonetheless!

My grandfather ran a succession of 1100s, so I've a bit of a soft spot for them... rust killed them off (except for the one that came off second- best when an Alvis Saracen APC unexpectedly turned left in a right-turn only lane, and drove straight over the bonnet without even realising...)

Alvis Saracen APC.jpg

And that Amazon - sounds like there's a story there? Very nice, and that looks like some cracking storage space you've bagged too!

******* COMMERCIAL BREAK********

UTV Ident 1970s.jpg

Okay then - since the Subaru has been as appallingly boring and reliable as feared (sound of fate being tempted, I know), and since my eclectic sales thread known as Datsuncog's Digital Bootsale was merged last year with the general Buy & Sell thread (for understandable and laudable reasons, I know, but... I went from making up to 30 sales per day of eminently affordable automotive ephemera to fellow jolly shiters, to selling not.one.single.thing.ever.again) AND since my recent ads for (I feel) reasonably covetable items have garnered not a jot of interest through the official channels...

Here's a few small ads, until the Forester does something heinous and post-worthy and I have to go out and fix it in the (May) snow.

[if you happen to hail from these fair shores, you may wish to imagine the dulcet tones of Julian Simmons doing his best 'Hanna and Browne Summer Sale' voiceover]

EDIT: BOTH HEAD UNITS NOW TAKEN!!!  First up, we have a lovely pair of not remotely vintage/retro/steampunk Sony car stereos, boxed, barely used and pretty much as new!!

One cassette head unit, and one Minidisc. With all bits and pieces included (pretty much).

Wow! Full details on the proper thread post:

http://autoshite.com/topic/31476-the-autoshite-official-for-sale-and-wanted-thread/?p=1506677

But suffice to say I will gladly post both of these glorious head units to a UK based shiter for £30, all in. Or will split.

And just as a heads-up, if you're interested in 1/43 diecast... keep an eye on this thread, and/or Shite In Miniature. I've spent the afternoon photographing few boxes of stuff to be disposed of via car boot sales in June, so once I've cropped and rotated them, they'll be up here first at ver' special shiter prices mostly ranging from between £5-20ish a pop, posted to UK addresses (others available by arrangement, no bother!) Vanguards, Solido, Corgi Classics, Minichamps, Eligor, Detail, and many many more...

 £10 posted. Maker unknown, again.

I should point out now that discount will of course be given for multiple purchases based on postage savings; further generous* discounts may also be forthcoming based on my own whims, caprices, and fluctuating desire not to have any more 5 am starts on a Saturday to take these to a car boot sale.

I'm also guessing somewhat on values, so if I'm way off-beam (e.g. there's a dozen listed on the Bay with a 99p Buy It Now) then I'm (grudgingly) willing to be corrected, and revalue accordingly.

Happy to run a 'basket' system whereby models are set aside for you until you've seen all available models posted, and then you can take your chosen 'basket' contents to the checkout for me to apply discounts etc and agree a final price.

If that makes sense.

I'm very tired.

Eligor Peugeot 404 Break (Norev reissue):

Box says it's a police model; either way it's a nicely proportioned little thing, complete with working tailgate.

Rear quarter at the roof isn't chipped, btw - that seems to be an unfortunate light reflection.

Aerial has been glued back on at some point, but not overly messy.

It's a postwar Fiat 1100E commercial. Quite what it's doing in this collection is another matter entirely - it's not the kinda thing I'm normally drawn to, and although I once used to know where all my models came from, somewhere along the line a middle-aged fog descended and now I don't anymore.

A quick squizz on Ebay suggests that £10 posted is not altogether unreasonable here.

It's a Renault R30 TX.

I can recall blowing about half my holiday money on this in a model shop in Saumur c.1995. It was ludicrously expensive for something more at the toy end than the scale model end of the market. I didn't dare tell my parents how much I'd spent - I think it was 400F or something. That would make my teeth scringe even now.

They may well have seen the little Irlandais coming.

No scratches or anything, though some of the paint is looking faintly blebby in places - just like the real thing. More pics if you'd like them.

£8 posted. (So the usual massive depreciation for a Renault V6 executive saloon, then)

It's from the Solido Toner Gam 1 range; Mk2 Ezz in green with the slightly less common (I'm told) grey interior.

Box is generally very good with mimimal wear though some tearing along the 'hinge' of the end flap retainer (as shown).

Model is in Ex/VG+ condition; very faint mark on roof which may well come off with a little bit of a polish. Further pics can be provided if desired.

Going by the prices asked online, £20 posted for this one seems pretty good value for someone.

Remember - discounts will be liberally, if erratically, applied for multiple purchases!

There's a chip out of the rear offside flank, which was why it was originally on the discount table in McCullough's model shop - and my 12-year old self cunningly used a pen from a Matchbox Grafix Trafix (sp?) set to touch it up. Actually not a bad match.

I didn't mean to buy this around 1991; I'd actually wanted a different taxi from the display cabinet in McCullough's, but based on my muttered instructions the owner picked this one out by mistake, and I was too socially awkward to correct him.

So I paid all my Christmas money and went home with the wrong taxi.

A few of the waterslide transfers have come away and are missing, and there's a paint fault on the rear wing (see pic) that I still can't decide whether it's a scratch or a factory paint flaw.

For £5 posted, you can try to work it out yourself.

Factory decals? Pah. As with many Solido models of the mid-90s, this one came with a sheet of waterslide transfers so the lucky* collector could ruin their new model in the comfort of their own home in an effort to make it look like le racer.

I clearly started and then quickly abandoned such efforts as a complete waste of time, so the majority of the 'stickers' are still on the sheet. So you can experience the same tears of rage and frustration 25 years later, should you so choose.

Bad bits: this model got stood on at some point, probably by my brother. As such, there's pressure marks on both A-posts, and the removable hood has a crack in one corner of the moulding, so the rear window usually pops out while trying to engage open-top mode. Drop of glue should sort it; just sayin', like. Still a nice wee model, mind.

Whimsically priced at £6, posted. Why? I judge it to be in slightly better nick than the £5 ones above. But if you can make a suitably shrill argument, I'll probably back down (though at about £4 postage, I'd like to think I ain't price-gouging anyone here).

You'll note that this one has a pair of paint chips knocked out of the rear corner; not quite sure how this happened, but it may have involved a hamster who had a habit of climbing up onto my model shelves and knocking them off.

I've owned these models a long time.

Now I did go to the trouble of putting the waterslide transfers on this one, and blow me down if they're not still attached (side rubbing strips, GTi C-post badging, flashback on the bootlid). I note that you can still buy the decals separately, should you want to put them on again in a slightly neater manner.

Now, this one put me in a quandary when I obtained it (c.1995, in a branch of E.Leclerc, if memory serves) because, frustratingly, Solido had put ONE decal on the car already - the big panel on the rhs. So I could either peel it off (and probably scratch the paint) to leave a white Celica, leave it looking stupid with one sticker, or bite the bullet and put them all on.

I went for the latter option.

23 years on, they're still surprisingly fresh. The transfers on the rallye lights seem to have fallen off, but the rest are hanging on. Again, new decal sheets seem to be available.

https://www.ebay.ca/itm/DECALQUES-TOYOTA-CELICA-RALLYE-DANGLETERRE-1977-/112972749587?rmvSB=true

I'm a bit conflicted about this one, as I still kinda like it and I'd been captivated by this model since encountering it in a book about diecast collecting when I was nine or so. But at the same time, I've made a vow to focus my collection on collector-model-grade passenger cars, not rally cars, and not toys.

The box has, frustratingly, become damaged while hauling all these in and out the shed.

A breathtaking sum of £15 posted on this one, as I'm genuinely conflicted and I can't find any for sale to provide a comparison.

Thinking about it, if it doesn't sell I might be trying to find a 1/43 car trailer and tow it behind my Minichamps Scorpio estate or Vitesse Espace...

Very nice model of Vauxhall's early stab at articulating the small car, big engine philosophy.

The going rate for this particular model seems to start around £25+ p&p, so a special shiter's price of £20 posted will apply here.

A cheery little model, this has suffered the usual irritating door mirror squishage as have so many of these Vanguards in the vac-formed packaging - with the sobbing diecast collector pushed into a modeller's version of Sophie's Choice, to either leave the (separately packed) mirrors off and gaze sadly at the blimmin' big empty holes in their model forevermore, or glue the buggers in and then never be able to put it back in the box again.

You can see how I chose. For resale purposes - badly. The o/s mirror will return to its proper position with a little heat and gentle encouragement, but that's a task for its lucky new owner.
