Captain Furious
I used it to identify a faulty ABS sensor, wouldn't say I'm an expert but I've had a look around it and its not too complex....whats up?
steveo3002
http://autoshite.com/topic/29803-focus-16-petrol-stalls-with-ac-on/ that thread basicly i can plug it in and see no fault codes or make it display dozens of live data , but without knowing what the values should be how do i compare my readings to what? its got a couple of what looks self checking features , i cant suss how to make them "run" will try and pop up a picture in a mo
steveo3002
right so isv quick test ...is that something i can make it self test and if so how desired idle 800 ....i can delete 800 and type in 900 but it defaults back to 800 , should i be able to change it , another 50 revs would sort it
Captain Furious
To run the self-test you simply press the 'play' button at the bottom, it looks like you have found the live-logging function too so you can monitor various parameters with that You cannot change the desired idle speed, at least not with this tool, it is just telling you what the ECU is 'aiming for' I can go into a bit more detail later but I have a meeting coming up so its a bit of a rushed reply....soz
steveo3002
yeah please do give more info when you can ...i feel its probably got the answers i need , its just i dont know how to use it /interpret the info so i can highlight all that stuff and self test it ? asssume it lights up and tells me yay or nay any other ideas please a/c off it idles fine and isv is at 30% , turn it on and idle goes to hell and its high 40s % if that means anything edit ran the isv test - it revved up a bit and confirmed its ok and says it reset itself , hasnt cured the problem
Captain Furious
Running the test simply confirms that the idle valve is going through its cycle and opening/closing fully - ie if it was faulty and wasn't opening fully this test would tell you. The live logging you basically select whichever parameters you're interested in from the different modules So you go into the PID data section, click the settings button Select the module which you're interested in getting parameters from Add them by double clicking or using the arrow buttons, once you have selected the sensors you want to read from each module it will ask you to save the profile - then select them from other modules When you have selected all the ones you require you click the tick button and go back to the dashboard screen - select each module from the dropdown box and hit play to to begin capturing data Now, knowing what parameters to capture and what they should be vs what they actually are - well, that's the tricky part! I would start with anything from the EATC and PCM modules related to air-con and see if their values seem realistic - ie when you switch the system to on does the ECU register that it is on, system pressure (I think it gives it in Kpa and the minimum you should see for the compressor to operate is 310, which is around 45psi - realistically it should be around double this) If the pressure is lower than this and the compressor is still engaging then it could be a faulty pressure switch which is supposed to prevent it engaging if the system pressure is too low. Its a black art really and a case of trial end error until you find something that doesn't seem right, googling it etc. Its a strange fault and not one I've encountered before. I would have thought if the compressor was offering up enough mechanical resistance to stall the engine the belt would be squealing like hell or thrown off. I had a compressor clutch go faulty on a Mk3 Mondeo even when it was just a 'bit stiff' the belt was squealing constantly.

steveo3002
is there a setting for timing /cam timing to be checked clutching at straws but wonder if they got it bang on when it had a belt put on , but was some time ago now

egg
My Fusion zetec se has been hesitant for ages, changed plugs and it stopped, came back a bit and changed coil, which hasn't really helped, so leads next.
