Hi try kuw285 - that reg was briefly on it and the computer may be slow

Yes that works, thanks.

Let me think on this some more. I can barely justify it when I already have a Mondeo estate but I reckon I'd save a fair chunk of the purchase price and VED doing an extra 20mpg on long football trips. Or I could just bite the bullet and sell the Mondy. If someone else jumps in and bites your hand off in the meantime that will be my fault for vacilitating!

Have to say if this was nearer to coventry I'd snap your hand off. Anyone fancy bringing it north

I might be able to, I need to nip to Smoke-on-Stench at some point in the next few weeks. Quite happy to move this towards the Midlands if need be...

A longstanding itch has been the mk1 focus. Like the ka and puma, it was launched at a time when I was approaching driving age and I read the reviews with anticipation. Rave reviews by all accounts, yet 20 years on the world has moved on and a mk1 focus is just another old car. I could never quite forget the impression it made on me at the time. In recent years I’ve had a puma, and am on my second ka. No foci, until now.

I’m not usually all that fussy with spec, but I was determined to get anything other than silver, petrol rather than diesel, 5 door hatch as I prefer the styling over 3 door and estate variants. Ghia would be nice.

This giffer owned 1.6 5 door Ghia cropped up and is due to be delivered by the grandson later this week. It’s a hand me down stop gap car until his usual wheels return from the garage later this week.....

I can’t quite figure out if they’d gone all tasteful and ebony on the fake wood by this stage or whether it’s still the the full on gopping original MFI- alike stuff. OBVs Im hoping it’s the latter.

Facelift ponce.

They’re cracking cars. I was pissed AF when my parents px’d their MK1 2.0 sport for buttons about 3 years ago.

Much like the Mondeo superseding the Sierra, it’s almost impossible to overstate the progress between the the Focus and the Escort. Razor sharp steering, chiselled angular looks, they were a leap forward in every measure.

For me, it’ll have to be a Millennium. Finding a good one now is very difficult tho.

Its a 1.6 Auto, so cant pull the skin of a rice pudding, but love the wifes Mk 1.

It is in silver though, so cant have everything.

Pooma is one I need to have at some point, but wife would rightly murder me if I purchased another car before getting rid of one/two/three.....

I passed my test in a 1.8 Ghia Focus Mk1 - it was a great car. Mrs 83C has done over 150k in various Focii over the years.

Had a few of these. Check those sills and trailing arm mounts though, they rot for fun. Same for the boot floor to inner wing seam.

Top bombing with a ghia!

I have to admit to a certain fascination with Ghia models. Yes, yes I know it’s a bit of trim stuck on here and there and different upholstery etc, but as a kid I was fascinated by Ghia badged fords. Oddly Especially the mk2 fiesta that had those moulded front overrider thingies. Anyway this focus is also a Ghia. It’s also very dirty inside and out, but I have the feeling that under the recent neglect lies a very straight, tidy car. There was treasure in the boot (see below) the current owner of 3 weeks (a hand me down from a deceased relative) hadn’t ever been in the boot and was as suprised as I was. An electric strimmer, some carpet tiles and a baby’s shoe (!) Getting an older car firmly in banger SCRAP IT terretory is always a school day in terms of budget tyre brands too.
WEST LAKE anyone?

It certainly lives up to the reputation these have as it’s lovely to drive and very chuckable. 88k, mainly main dealer history etc.ACAE9221-66D2-473E-97A0-C4CC8DDF3E0A.jpeg 698AF0C5-F8FF-4824-9D17-21D59C170B79.jpeg 9B1D339D-1181-44FE-97F8-C3A1EEFE636C.jpeg 1F68D984-9E57-4546-89C8-14D8A7A6217C.jpeg 04D071A2-2FCF-4518-AF65-9A2E540B9FF4.jpeg 3FFB25DD-BE88-4360-9267-5D5ADCDED849.jpeg 14751024-8ABD-42D8-A844-0756FC9C76C0.jpeg 95E40568-7513-425D-A939-D7FBEA26E67C.jpeg 7842B586-6187-4107-8DA7-7A733A7E18D0.jpeg 68E43FF2-F691-47B7-B7FD-40FE9EFBA5F1.jpeg

Looks good man. I really like the 1.6 Focus. The missus has one and it drives great.  The Puma values are picking up but the Mk1 Focus 1.6 values are rock bottom so youve picked the best possible time to pick one up.

Enjoy!

I almost had one, put a deposit down on a friend's car, she was emigrating. She took all the paperwork with her to Oz though, and the deal died.

Then I bought the Fusion.

These handle like shit to a blanket even with shit tyres. So far ahead of anything else in that class at the time for handling, they got it so right with the drive on the Mk1.

Mine does on the Mk2 Ghia.

There’s a 1.8 TDDI on my road that’s done nearly 200k, the folks that have had it for years, I expect either the rust or the inevitable fuel pump failure will see it off eventually.

I’d get some Waxoyl over the rear trailing arm mounts before the winter though.

It’s Knockhill, 1999. I’ve just crashed out of a touring car support race whilst off my face on Stella. Rock bottom. Although it’s happening on TOCA2 on a PlayStation, and I’m a student who should know better than to drink and game.
