So I have space for two cars, currently occupied by four. This means I need to shift something.

Have to confess to having run into something of a critical patience failure with the Skoda, that in conjunction with having got the Lada means it needs to go.

So, what are we looking at...

- Skoda Estelle (Mk II) 120LX.
(For those who know their Estelle's, the 120LX is essentially a 130 in all ways but fitted with a 1.2 rather than 1.3 engine)
- 18K miles.
- Planning to put a year's test on it before selling.
- Head gasket changed last year and a few hundred miles ago.
- generally tidy body. Only crusty bits are the offside front wing and rear wheel arch. Photos will show these in detail.
- Four new Pirelli tyres fitted a couple of thousand miles ago.
- New exhaust fitted in 2014.
- interior is generally tidy and complete, but the seats are suffering the usual sun damage so covers have been fitted.
- Heater by some miracle actually works really well in this one.
- Original radio/cassette and speakers present and working.
- Good gearbox with no issues jumping out of any gears or any dodgy synchromesh.

The underside has quite a lot of surface corrosion that suggests the car has spent quite a lot of time sitting around somewhere not entirely dry. It's generally solid though, though there were a couple of holes poked in the offside will for the last MOT - which I then had sorted by the garage.

Currently needs...

- Overheating issue (again) fixed, prime suspect is the thermostat sticking at present as it seems utterly random. It's never got properly hot in my ownership though as I've always kept a careful eye on the gauge and shut it down as soon as it started to move.
- The clutch slave cylinder packed in last week, very nearly propelling me backwards through the garage door!
- Sounds like the valve clearances could do with resetting.
- Rear view mirror is missing.
- All the rubber bushes in the rear suspension to be honest could do with changing just due to old age.
- Whole thing could do with a good polish and wax thanks to an idiot at one of the local hand car washes spraying the car down with TFR which of course left me with a completely Matt car.

- The car is (astonishingly) running on what appear to be the original brake discs and pads - though they do work bloody well. Just seemed worth mentioning.

I've been out in the last few days and snapped somewhere north of 60 photos to add here - going to do that tomorrow at an actual computer though rather than attempting it from my phone.

I would be willing to consider a swap for a Mk I Jeep Cherokee 4.0 (1993-1996) in Limited or Limited SE spec. Not particularly worried about cosmetics as it will be a working vehicle and I've a crazy plan to run with the life size Tonka toy looks and to paint every panel a different colour ala VW Polo Harlequin.

As stated above, I'm planning to get the obvious issues sorted and have the car offered with a full year's MOT. I am however open to offers now!

The car to be honest owes me about three grand, though I don't for a minute think I'm going to get that back for it...Just trying to do as much damage limitation as I can really.

Stand by for a torrent of photos tomorrow, and fire any questions you may have at me in the mean time.

Reg number if you want to research MOT history etc: D711 EPY.

Forgot possibly the most important detail - it's in the best possible Skoda colour, that eye-searingly bright, almost neon orange.

Even if Skoda call it Rowan Red.

There are some photos from when I first got the car on my website over here assuming the link works.

Two basic ones also below...

rear1.jpg

Sadly I think the neighbours and the council might take exception to the double deck parking idea...

The current Google Streetview picture of my house has my old Skoda 120 Jubilee parked in the driveway.  That had been tweaked a bit mind - lowered slightly and with a twin-choke Weber and rorty exhaust.  I loved that car.

You are of course wrong. The best colour is the Pogweasel maroon of my Mum's 79 120LS.

I used to commute from Wallsend to Weymouth each weekend, both ways, in my Ereg Black 130Rapid.
Overheating was an issue in long queues (the M1 was being upgraded at the time) and I realised that the temp sensor for the rad fan was at the front but the hottest water was at the back...

I fitted a dash switch override, illuminated red, and it solved the issue.

YES.... I made more on 'company mileage allowances' than the cost of the car in the first month + it was a hoot @85*.

Okay...I've got a folder of 77 photos in front of me...Let's see what happens when I try to attach them all!  Hopefully I've managed to accurately capture everything of relevance.

It's a really odd car this one...in that there is an odd combination of "absolutely bloody immaculate" and then very localised areas of rust.  The underside I hate taking photos of as the camera always seems to make it look far worse than it does in person...Think that's always the way though.  I'd get it up on the ramps for some better shots if it weren't for the current lack of a working clutch!

So...off we go, in no particular order!

I'm a great believer that a picture speaks a thousand words...hence the number of photos.

If there is any area or detail that you would like me to snap for you please don't hesitate to ask.

I'm going to try to get some of the blasted pine needles out of the heater intake/washer bottle area and get some fresh shots of there as all you can see there just now is pine needles as I made the mistake of parking the car under the pine tree by our driveway for a couple of weeks.  Big mistake...They immediately got *everywhere* as you can see.  I'll try to get some better underbody photos as well as I realise they're lacking at the moment.

Questions, comments, request for more photos...fire away.

Blimey those photos brought back some memories of my brief dalliance with a Skoda Estelle which I got for £100 and lasted me about a month.

Good to see the familiar sights again after all this time.

Hope you get a price worthy of the lurve you've given it :)

Just a shame I can't share the smell when you open the door. That's something which I'm sure will give many people a major nostalgia trip the moment they open it. One of the silly things I'll really miss when it's gone.

I really don't want to sell it to be honest...but I fully accept that it's the most sensible thing to do. I'm never going to have the resources to hand to get the body back to A1 condition as it deserves, and it's fundamentally incompatible with a large dog or anyone other than me in the household being able to drive it. Likewise they're all terrified of the Lada.

She could be an absolutely cracking little car with a bit of work...and I don't want her to fail to get that because of me. They're cars that get better the more they're used, and it's just not getting it at the moment.

An additional bit of info...

A common mod to help dealing with modern fuels (I've always used Super Unleaded & a lead replacement additive) is to have the carb re-jetted with the standard setup from a 130. I essentially did that by sticking the carb off my previous 130GL. The original carb will also be supplied with the car.

Apologies, but I don't understand the price.  Is it £3000 or is it not?  Offers based on?  I probably missed something so apologies.

Offers based on...whatever the bleep people think the thing is actually worth. Which with cars like this seems to be largely based on the output of a random number generator these days.

Once it's got the year's ticket on it I'd really like to be seeing something at least in the general ballpark of £1500 as I don't think that's being unreasonable these days. In the meantime though I'm also open to offers in its current state for obviously a rather lower amount.

Swap wise, an early 90s Cherokee is on the wish list as something both interesting and compatible with the needs of being dog compatible while also comfortable and capable of carrying four adults and our stuff longer distances.

Background is that I bought the car back in 2013 (I think) for two grand. Over the odds probably, but it was local for which I was willing to pay a bit of a premium for back when I was in Aberdeen as these usually only turned up south of the border. In hindsight I probably should have turned right back around and taken it back when it proceeded to spit all its coolant out half way home thanks to a duff expansion bottle cap as that set the scene for the next few months.

I spent the next few months chasing fuel leaks, oil leaks, several cooling system faults and myriad electrical gremlins all due to the car never having been properly recommissioned by the previous owner when it was put back on the road, it having spent most of its life in a large collection of vehicles but rarely used apparently. It was also wearing its original tyres at the time which had turned to plastic and were in equal measure hilarious fun and utterly terrifying. Negotiating roundabouts or junctions made me feel like I was in a 70s US movie car chase as tyre squeal and powerslides were almost unavoidable anywhere north of 10mph. Had to change one of the rear wheel bearings as well (offside), the garage saying it looked like it had been damaged when the rear brake cylinder had been changed, which was also improperly fitted - so of course I also had them strip down the other side to check - it was fine. The various issues of electrical infidelity were invariably just due to dodgy connections resulting from oxidisation due to lack of use, and I've not had any of those in well over a year now so hopefully that's a problem left back up north.

At this stage I've just kind of lost patience with all the niggling problems I've had with it - in spite of the fact that I know full well that they're things that shouldn't bother me again. Especially in context of it being one car too many really. It's time for someone else to have a shot. The random attempt to overheat closely followed by the clutch slave cylinder deciding to pack in were the last straws really.

I get the feeling that I'm probably going to sell this, the next owner will spend a couple of days fettling it, and it will then behave impeccably for the next several years - and I'll spend the next several years bashing my head against a wall for selling it.

The rubber hose (thin, to the front rad/heater bleed) is $hit.

Alloy f/RR coolant pipes/rubber connections either end are $hit.

If this shell is as 'non crackerbread' as it looks then a firm hold out at the £price should* see you home :)

Most of them are machine screws actually...tell you one thing, they make far more sense than the single use "break-the-dash-rather-than-the-clip" setup on most modern tat when you want to get at anything...

The Lada makes far more extensive use of self tappers though!

Ooof! Mega wantage. This is teh secks. Shame the underside has gone that way given how minty the rest of it is, but should respond to vigorous wire brushing and paint.

I reckon that is very much true of at least 95% of it under there based on the poking around I did when I first got it.

I'll try to get some wider underbody photos added tomorrow.

This one's actually surprisingly tame (my first one was somewhat lively, and the Rapid downright dangerous), these tyres seem to be incredibly grippy. Granted, I've usually tried to avoid taking it out in the wet anyway.

The one I borrowed got taken out just because their were wet roads...

Including the day I got a text off the owner saying how smoothly I could drive it sideways - they were a few cars back in the queue...

good god, a 4 door porsche..... (before there was even such a thing)

i've not see one of these in, well, years!

my first car was one of these back in i think 1993?

owned it for a month, bought it for £80 (out of a scrap yard, bumped in the back, and i felt sorry for it) sold it with tax and test after bolting a new back panel on it, and blowing it over with a rattle can, for £500!

the only car  i ever made a profit on!

not for me i'm afraid, but GLWS all the same, and yes, i too hope it stays in the AS fold
