Barry Cade
Boss bought a new series 3 88" Land Rover new in 1974. Put it in the stables in 1986 due to rampant Chassis and Bulkhead rot. Now the caravanning season is beginning to quieten down, I've been tasked with the restoration. New chassis has been bought. Most of the original has been swept in the bin. Rusty_Rocket
Bulkhead looking good. Tempted to have it galvanised when it's repaired? They seem to be able to do that now without warping the (thin) metal!

I've been "informed" I've got a Perkins S1 from 1950 to do next... Rusty_Rocket
Momentary Lapse Of Reason
Call that rot! This is more what a rotten Land Rover looks like... (But they do get worse) Barry Cade and They_all_do_that_sir

Kiltox
Fuck - he laid it up at 12 years old due to rot and you’re having to sort it out at 43?
Guest
Fuck - he laid it up at 12 years old due to rot and you’re having to sort it out at 43?How did you know how old I am?? Yeah, it's been lying in a stable beside a S1 Perkins. One of those get round to it motors- It had been seriously bodged over the 12 years with bits of caravan and silicone. I started the job as a caravan technician and have done little else but LR fettling... At least the P38 left us today, goodbye and you'll not be missed. somewhatfoolish, Kiltox and oldcars

Guest
It Moves!! Getting everything lined up was a real hassle- new chassis, bulkhead fabricated out of 2 with 2 new footwells, rear tub from another "88 and bits here and there. Took a few jacks, some big levers and a lot of swearing to get it all lined up. Got it to nearly stop smoking and mechanically all good. Brake pipes and make a wiring loom next. drum
Great work. You can buy a wiring loom off the shelf for these if the boss is willing to pay. Might save you some grief.
Guest
Won't be this Friday.. I'm on a 5 day gas course.. gonna make my own loom and add on 7n,7s and 13 pin towing electrics, proper glow plugs and a modern fusebox. Have to make sure it's got a decent heater too.. djimbob and oldcars
