pandamonium
Having acheived a high level of autoshiteness with this...... I have decided it is not for me.So, you ask, what will I be replacing it with? A brand new Punto Active under the new government scrappage scheme?Noooooooo! If all goes according to plan, my next mode of transport will be this!Reckon that has got to be a level up from the Avenger?! Torsten2001
I love an Horizon, same as the next man but surely that's about 3 levels down?
pandamonium
You think the Horizon is a better car? ie - less shite?
Torsten2001
NO! The Avenger is a Rolls in comparison, I love them both but the Avenger is massive class, I have an Horizon remember and I love it but my old Avenger just felt so much better....and quieter! VWPowered
ummm Avenger for me, Horizon is a good car but Tagora is better

Dukestar25
I'm still drooling over that Avenger tbh , but I, like the others, am not convinced that the Horizon is a better class of shite. Yes it's in good condition but I still have painful memories of when car would kiss tarmac when the wheels became disjointed from the suspension (remember all that?).Personally, I would keep the Avenger... trigger
I fear these may not be the answers that you was after, Beige FTW but i do feel the Avenger may be the better car to live with.
michiel
Horizon is surely autoshitier than the Avenger, so good luck!
Mash
Horizons are weapons-grade shite but personally I'd spend time getting the Avenger dead right, it can't be far off?
MrRegieRitmo
I love both, especially as your's is a Talbot Avenger of which I did not realise! Both are great autoshite but I feel the Horizon scores it's points for being unloved & a bit rubbish whereas the Avenger albeit the Talbot one scores them for being classically shite in an affectionate, fondly remembered kinda way so therefore has to win. Sorry Horizon, I do really like you though...

r.welfare
The Avenger is the nicer car but if you want rid, you want rid. I do like the Horizon though, it's a shame it's not that vibrant shade of metallic green they did the really early ones in!
mouseflakes
I would have thought that where the Avenger is retro, the Horizon is autoshite. If that's the effect you're after - go with what feels best.
garethj
When Sir Charles Rolls said to Henry Royce "Why won't the engine of this Silver Ghost start", Royce replied "Because it's already running" If they'd had the same conversation about a Talbot Horizon, Sir Charles Rolls would have said "Why did you have to park close to some fucking big clock, that ticking is doing my head in" Henry Royce would have simply replied "The tappets were done a week ago, they can't need doing again, surely"
pandamonium
That's exactly what I am aiming for. I feel the Horizon will fill a void in my life that no car has filled since the Lada.Anyhoo, the Horizon will be dropped off at my house next week (along with some £££s and the Avenger will leave (saves me having to do the clutch!) Guest
When I last saw that Horizon it was a beauty still in the hands of its o.a.p ownerSadly he has since died and I have seen the car ebayed since then-love Horizons myself I did have a few in the 90's
Split_Pin
I do really like the Avenger, especially as its the Talbot one with the large square lights, but I agree that the beige Horizon is First Class Autoshite and therefore wins my vote. The more unloved the better for me! trigger
If you squint a bit, the rear looks like a Porsche 924. Maybe.
Spottedlaurel
Don’t take this the wrong way, but are you buying these cars for you or other people? Be great to have a Horizon within the Autoshite fold, but I suspect the novelty of owning and driving it would soon wear off. As most others suggest, I suspect the Avenger when sorted would be the more satisfying car.
Negative Creep
The Horizon is more shite, the Avenger looks so clean it's more in the classic territory. Beige paint and no hubcaps ftw!

Most people I have mentioned it to have shuddered or warned me to steer clear. But I want it and that's all that matters!
Mr_Bo11ox
I think the Horizon is shitier for defo, I think I would probably choose it and a few hundred quid in the pocket over the avenger though.I trust you wont be going down the lowering + multiple trim ring/unsuitable wheel combo route with it?
pandamonium
Of course I won't be lowering it. Some sort of torsion bar setup I'm led to believe, making it rather difficult. Wheels however, I'm sure I could find some suitable pound shop wheel trims.Actually, I have a set of Hyundai trims somewhere that will fit! (Kidding btw)
wuvvum
Having owned examples of both, I would agree with the general consensus that the Avenger is by far the better car (especially in 1600 form) but the Horizon is shiter, especially in beige. I'd happily drive either one.
Guest
Avengers are getting dangerously close to becoming 'cool' , in a "better than Marina and Hunter" but "worse than Viva and Escort" kind of fashion. Therefore, Horizon for me every time
Mr H Sceptre
A very interesting and worthwhile debate gents. 1st wave of Autoshite v 2nd wave: think we can all agree that the Avenger is a cast iron clunker, whereas the Horizon only a few years ago may have struggled to get a second glance. But as time has moved on, the Horizon is right up there isnt it? The beauty of loving old cars - it always changes. Always. Myself & m'colleague Mr E Leyland have had similar lengthy discussions over the weekend (recent photographs of S reg Fiesta & MkIII Escort being fine examples of 2nd phase of Autoshite that we wouldnt have photographed a few years ago). Therefore, Horizon for me every time I think that sentence nails it! :)Put it this way, any car which you can attach a roof rack to & have people wonder if it's for 'appearances' tells you the car has a slight trendiness to it. I can picture an Avenger wearing a roof rack, I can't picture a Horizon wearing one. There you go...

Yes, my first Horizon did that. It also had a habit of shedding it's wheels due to having slotmags with the wrong studs. Both cars have their merits, Avenger for it's wonderful suspension, handling and the fact they really are leagues ahead of an Escort.Horizon is more frugal on fuel and I found them comfier.Tough call for you but I adore Avengers so it's a no brainer for me. MrRegieRitmo
If you squint a bit, the rear looks like a Porsche 924. Not as much as a Renner 18 does But yes same style of light, as is a late MkI Golf, Talbot Samba/Citroen LNA/Peugeot 104 3 door, Citroen BX & probably others
