Escort running problems - hopefully now cured.

Still no further forward with this...changed the anti freeze and thermostat yesterday and it still died after a few miles.I put some more fuel in and managed to do 20 miles with no issues then noticed I had left the breather tube off on the top right of the rocker cover. After reconnecting it, it died again after a couple of miles so disconnected it and did 10 miles with no problem. So, next line of thought is a blockage somewhere in the breather system causing pressure build up in the engine? There is all sorts of small breather pipes at the back of the engine going into the carb and into some sort of sensor on the choke heater pipes.....this is turning into a bit of a nightmare.

Most if not all of the pipes to the carb will be vacuum I think, possible that theres a leak somewhere causing poor running. Worth looking at any pipes to and sensors on the air filter housing too.

Well, the Escort appears to be running fine again. Not really sure how I have fixed it but seems the breathers may have been the ultimate culprit.Someone on another forum said they had problems with a breather tube being soft and collapsing when hot and therefore choking the engine. The top left breather that goes into the breather filter was very soft and had a kink in it so I'm hoping that it was the cause.I've done about 50 odd miles with no problems and done 25 today in the heat including a run up & down the dual carrigaeway at 80 ish mph without so much as a murmur. In the end I had changed the anti-freeze/thermostat/rad cap. Added an in-line fuel filter and changed the knackered breather. I've also started putting super-unleaded in as it seems to run better on this.Fingers crossed as they say.
