31 is an IFA Framo V901 fitted with a Deutz stationary engine.

Following on from my own suspicions and Jonny69's musings, I wondered if #4 might be a Rover 12 Sportsman or other P2 variant.  Most of it fits but the body moulding is wrong on the back doors to convince me completely.  The wings and running boards are definitely non-original, they've clearly been widened a lot.

Nope, best guess is "land vehicle" and none of the results are the original picture, or other pictures of the same car.

Number 20 looks like Freightliner FLA cab over, hopefully with a v8 71 Detroit deesil

It's a 1938 Oldsmobile C-131.

 

That's what I thought initially but the C-131 has a single pane windscreen and the truck in the picture has a twin pane windscreen.

The one in the picture also has a more rounded, thinner door top (around the window) where the C-131 has a more square, thicker door top.

 

 

I'm probably just being pedantic, but the lack of available information makes it hard to find exactly which model of Oldsmobile it is.

But no amount of googling brings up the ACS 2.5 turbo which is what it's listed as...

30 is Mike Dean's '72 Dodge Demon. It was originally a 340 4 speed, but had been modified into a drag car early in its life.

Mike imported it from California to Wellington, NZ, in 1998, sans engine and box and is now running it with a 440 and 727.

Number 8 is my photo! Only posted on my spotted thread on here and once on another forum, so always interesting to see where these images migrate to.

 

Anyway, am always happy that people find them interesting enough to share. The main reason I thought I'd reply though is to say that it was taken in NZ, which might help with identifying it; my guess would be it was locally bodied. Also, from memory the front end was an awful lot flatter than the streamlined one suggested, so I'd confidently rule that out.

A privately owned fuel-filling station Was opened a few days ago at Messrs. Lawrence's Garage, Clapham Road, SW. Several Bowser kerbside pumps have been installed, and they are supplied by three underground tanks having a total capacity of 6,000 gallons, and containing respectively Shell, Mex, and benzele. While the spirit is being taken in, owners can have their tyres pumped up free of charge. Another interesting feature of this go-ahead concern is a billiard-roorn for the use of drivers and others who may have to kill time in the garage. This establishment is always open, and should be of great service to drivers coming into London from the south and wishing to garage their machines.

 

It would appear that in the recent past the site was a Peugeot dealership owned by themselves.

I used to volunteer at Beaulieu library and you would always get somebody sending in a generic Vintage or Edwardian photo like that of Great Aunt Edith's car wondering what it was.   Usually the photo wasn't even as clear as No.37 although the radiator was likewise inevitably out of shot.    

 

We had photocards of wheel hubs, nut patterns, dumb-iron configurations, steering arrangements etc.  but even the old boys usually went wandering off when one these enquiries came in.   After several hours we would usually get there and write or speak to the enquirer - very often to get the response "Oh, No, I don't remember it being one of those....."

I'll go back and update in a bit.  There's some fantastic info coming through on these, Eddie's post on the garage particularly, which is far more stuff than I expected from a basic "what's this?" enquiry thread.  Genuinely surprised and pleased and made me want to find more obscure stuff I don't know now.

That actually helps a lot! I reckon it's a Ford V8 from the 1930s. There's enough of a hint of body details and roof line to seem a good match and while the grille is difference, it does look to fit in the same panel as on the black and white picture here. Certainly similar enough to be a candidate and these Ford V8s were specifically bodied in New Zealand on the info I've found so that ties in with where you found it.

All updated and I suspect as far as we'll get with that first selection unless an owner/builder/photographer of the car in the photo steps forward with more info.

 

4 - Q plate hot rod

14 - it's a Heinkel or a Trojan, we'll likely never know which.

29 - 60s custom hot rod.  Probably be easier to find out who the builder was than it ever is to find out the car/s underneath it all.

No. 14 I was swayed to a Trojan.

It's a Martin Parr photo from 1978 and I found a massive 5000px version of it. There's enough of the side of the badge to suggest it's a Trojan badge.

29 is Crucifer, built by Joe Cruces.
 

 
It went through a constant metamorphosis, like all show cars do and finally won
the Custom Rod of the Year category at the 1967 Oakland Roadster Show.

Following on from the success of round one, I've had a good dig and found a massive folder of stuff I've been working through.  Most of the stuff I'm identifying by cross referencing with stuff already done, but about 5% of the images I've got are foiling my attempts.  Anything pre-1940 and quite a lot of American cars are proving my weakness so you'll likely see a lot of that.  I'm just going to do batches of 10 and release a new batch as each is identified and I've updated the archive.

 

It's actually ridiculous how many images I've collected over the years, looks like I hoarde pictures of cars I'll never find/afford which I suppose is healthier than magazines or binbags full of clothes.
