Jim Bell
Looks class man but Jesus, what do these weigh? A slightly smaller engined Mondeo wagon gets 45 empeegeezeees driving all local and 51 on a run and wrings 2 more horses out of a lesser 2.0 lump. Omega wins on coolness and styling by a long chalk mind.
fatharris
It's apparently about right for these engines, I'll do a full write up tomorrow with pictures, but MrsH and I are having a McDs to celebrate me getting back alive. 83C
It's the old BMW M51 indirect injection lump, or X25DT as Vauxhall called it. It ought to get towards 40mpg (my old 525tds did) but 34 isn't too bad at all.

fatharris
Aye, just before Shrewsbury! Just getting dressed and I'll give a little ditty on the new motor. Today will be a cleaning day on it, along with testing absolutely everything to ensure it works. fatharris
First relief of the day, it started this morning. Moved it slightly forward to find a small present left for me, at the rear end. Still, it still looks all right. It definitely needs a good hoover. It's a bit cosmetically - er - challenged, but will clean up nicely. Huge boot. DOGGO APPROVED The car itself has had some work done recently, notably a £600 fuel injection pump, recent tires, new serpentine belt and a couple of pulley bearings. Onto the owners. The Omega was owned by two brothers, who were shiters, through and through. It's reassuring being picked up in a Range Rover from the train station, and being driven to this scene: And being invited into the workshop: Where Andy was performing a cambelt change on a 4th Rover 800 (one owner car from Torquay, 40k on the clock but dash lift) I counted: 1 Audi 902 Omega estates (both 2.5TDs)1 Omega saloon4 Rover 800s2 Jag XJ40s1 Rover 100 imported from Australia1 vintage Daimler1 Range Rover P38 I passed on the name of this place to the guys so hopefully we hear from them, they were selling up because they're relocating to France. Anyway, onto the drive home. I've never controlled such a lazy diesel. It's a bit of a lazy starter, there's definitely a little bit of stretch in the timing chain. More concerning is the occasional stalling when slowing to a stop at the lights, the temp begins to creep up when flooring it in 4th. Nothing close to the red, mind, but it had definitely started to rise as the load increased. Lastly, two times during the trip home, it loses a lot of power and can barely maintain 70, which is cleared by either shutting down as restarting the engine, or revving the tits off it in neutral as I'm coasting along, which picks it back up. Finally, as is always the case with my cars (4 in a row now!) It's letting water in somewhere around the sunroof control panel and the OSR window goes down lovely but doesn't come up properly, like it's coming off the runners. That being said, it's a lovely motor and with a bit of work, it'll be smashing. fatharris
Well, today consisted of two tasks. One, set the car up on the insurance. £2 a month more than a 1.4 Golf, figure that one out. Secondly, the car was filthy, inside and out. So, many hours of scrubbing later: Eh? Ew. The debris that came out, including £1.91 in spare change. Winner. Now it smells a lot better and the dog hair is no more! Happy days, all in all, it's a much more pleasant place to sit now, and MrsHarris likes it a lot more! Next plan is to clean the Golf and get it ready for sale. It's an all right car but neither of us ever warmed to it. fatharris
Not much done today, I decided to wash the Rover and Herman, during which the heavens opened and I got totally drenched. I did get around to replacing the dashboard backlight filaments, as more than half of them had gone. Only a few needed changing! Finally, the rear ventilation directors had fallen off inside the ducting. Bit of jiggling and prodding saw that sorted now. Going to look at getting the EGR blanked off in the future. fatharris
Another day, another job for the Omega. Several stints down here. Will the Omega handle it? NOMNOMNOM So, the Omega can fit a bathtub, and a wheelie bin in front of it! Naturally, the boot was shit-high with plasterboard and rubble, so it got hoovered out again today, I'm a big fan of the carpet Vauxhall use, it's so easy to clean. Had another episode of it being down on power, which was inconvenient but quickly sorted itself. fatharris
THIS WEEK IN PICTURES: FRONT SPEAKERS WERE BOLLOCKSED, replaced with ones I had in the garage. Forgot an after photo. Now, how about.... THE LAST SIX HOURS IN PICTURES: Traced this pool to the injector leak pipe going from No.1 injector back to the pump, it had lifted slightly so I re-seated it. Hoping it would cure the cold start issues. Got in, getting ready to set off, and.... BALLS. Think it was a bit overly sensitive as it had just dipped below the minimum mark on the dipstick. Topped up. I think the leak pipe was still leaking. Open bonnet whilst engine running later on to confirm leaking worse than ever before, it was overflowing from the injector well and everything. Oh well, may as well fill up whilst I'm here. Brim the tank, as I have done since I bought it. OH FUCK OFF. This was at Yeovil, 140 miles away. Eventually, the car lost power again (I'm starting to suspect the turbo wastegate) and eventually developed a misfire. Less than five miles from home, the power loss disappeared and the car drove with more power than ever before. Weird. I eventually get home, show MrsH the engine running to show the leak for 30 seconds, then moved it to park for the night, having used half a tank for 140 miles. That's a fucking puddle and a half. An idea of how diesel-spattered the back end was. Fucks sake, it's my birthday tomorrow, and BabyHarris' second scan, and all I'll be thinking about it where to start first.
