I am confused at how it will have an "immediate positive effect on air quality" what about the pollution from the factories building all these new cars and components, the pollution from the foundries that process the scrap vehicles and all the pollution in between

Pretty much all of the manufacturers / their dealers offer this on a rolling basis, it's nothing different.

 

A Citroen dealer was offering £5k "scrappage" on a C4 Cactus the other month. At full list price.

 

Totally different to the actual government scheme years ago.

Just another car offer a manufacturer is offering. Instead of bigger deposit contribution, they just offer more part ex. All it is, is just a discount on the car but giving cash off instead doesn't get people in like offering more money on what they own.

 

Same old shit, just in a different packages.

 

It's very different from when the government did it, when effectively it was free cash for the manufacturers.

We have just finished one at Vauxhalls'R'Shit which has run for the last few months.

 

To be honest, all of the cars that came through it were ropey and probably an MOT away from the fragger anyway.

Will these part exchanged motors really get scrapped? There's no government incentive for it, surely they're just part exes that will end up at auction as normal?

I imagine they'll end up through the normal channels if they have any MOT or value, possibly organised by Ford UK to help them shift them quicker. E.g. special organised auctions. After all, they're a business, so if they can reclaim more money back easily, then they often will.

If you have a car that's worth a grand, sell it privately or to WBAC and walk in to the Ford dealership and negotiate £2K (at least) off the price.

 

I noticed the Good Morning Britain headline tag was 'New cars banned after 2040'. Also electric cars produce 'zero emissions' and 'are what we will all be driving'

However there will be a scheme to reduce diesels, coming soon, and Ford's MD apparently said the cars will be scrapped (according to a comment on FB)...

I would be amazed if there was £2k profit across any of the Access models - the dealer margin is 3% (£280) on the Duster!

 

You can't even get the £500 deposit contribution on one that they do on higher spec models on PCP

So, who's gonna be the first to rock up to their Ford Dealer in a 1987 Capri Laser and say "Hello good man, I'd like to take advantage of your scrappage scehem for my old car" and see it get scrapped... No government requirement for CoD, I doubt any classics will be fragged this time - and if they are, someone, somewhere, is an idiot*

When the Government brings in the diesel scrappage scheme, and putting the cash up to support the scrappage - then Dacia will be churning out Access models to people bringing in old VAGTDI and spending £3K on a new car. The report suggested values up to 8000 Euro being valuable to get rid of the era of diesels they were focusing on - pre Euro 2 or 4 I think?

You can see why people go for it, especially if they think their old crock might conk at any moment.

I walked past the Vauxhall stand in Liverpool One the other day , all the nice shiny cars out with prices on the sides , £229 a month !!!  , F ! that , thats my shite heap paid for in 2 months , another month for the insurance , and another month for the years road tax ....  in profit now if all goes well for the next 8 months , which in a way saves up for the next car !!!!!  , and and the advantages with this scrapheap idea ??????

Saw some industry (probably an SMMT representative) Johnny on TV this morning chopsing away about what a great idea this was and it wasn't anything to do with selling more new cars.

 

Now we can all totally believe this because he used words like 'Environmental','pollution reduction' and 'green' in his explanation so this completely validates his stance since we all well know that nothing in the world justifies an action so completely as playing the environmental card.

 

With this in mind, I am convinced it's a wonderful idea - I mean, think of all the kids & nuns, fluffy bunnies and polar bears you'll save by buying a new car that consumes more resources in it's manufacturing stage that an existing one does in it's useful life.

The Vauxhall dealer on Staples Corner at the bottom of the M1, has a Nissan Murano, of all things sitting on top of a skip advertising there minimum part-ex. Where would they even find one?

Nope, well not with us anyway. All our trade stock goes to BCA, but anything scrappage was collected by an authorised dismantler.

 

So less old 2nd hand cars on the road for people to buy too so more chance of them thinking 'Fuck it, I'm not spending £5k of my own money on an 8yr old Focus' and forking out £250pm on a PCP contract, especially as their mates may have done the same.
