holbeck
My local auction house has this RHD but French registered VW Golf cabriolet in the next auction (sorry for the small pic it's copied from the catalogue). http://www.potburysauctions.co.uk/Catalogues/gs220817/lot0001.html The story is that a lady moved from France to the UK some years ago and brought her car with her. It was brought back by a removal company and dumped in her garage. There it stayed for an unspecified amount of time. It does have a current MOT but I assume it is without NOVA (I just got blank looks from the auction people) I have asked about the Carte Gris but the auction house could not confirm it was present. I'm not interested personally, I just wonder what a world of pain it would be for the lucky new owner. EDIT: I was told at the Auction house that there was no MOT, although I notice the catalogue description says it does.
castros_bro
I do admit to having a liking for Mk3 cabrios. You'd should stumble at not having NOVA but if you have some paperwork (from shippers?), previous owner and Auction house and the fact the car is over 10 years old - basically a worthless car and not needing a Certificate of conformity to register in the UK but having an MOT so headlamps/fog lamp/reversing lamp are good for UK use - you may find her maj GOVs DVLA will actually help you. nigel bickle
Do you want it? Is it cheap? It's a rhd French car in the Uk. Treat it the same as any other, surely? No CG would be a pain, but not insurmountable. It's probably there but they don't know what they are looking at. Ask them to describe the docs. The rest is headlights? Fog lights? Mot and register. If there's enough in it for you, after costs - why not? strangeangel
lesapandre
Never tried this but the car may be on the DVLA database perhaps because it will have been noted as permenantly exported so the vin will have led to the previous UK reg. That might make things easier?
lesapandre
The is quite a lot of UK RHD stuff in France which has been reg there by expats. A quick look at Leboncoin threw up this virtually immediately http://www.leboncoin.fr/vi/1173551885.htm
holbeck
Do you want it? Is it cheap? No, I don't want it Nige. I just put it up here out of interest. I don't think it's going to be cheap either, it failed to meet reserve at the last sale apparently. nigel bickle
Tamworthbay
They are cheap and common enough that it's almost certainly not worth the hassle. I looked into buying an old triumph a few years back that had been reimported, it's not impossible by any stretch but the extra hassle made it a risk not worth bothering with.
