A friend of mine will be giving you a ring Richard, I've given her your number. She runs an RX8 or two and races a Celica.

For 250 quid you can't not buy it if you have an RX8.

No phone calls. Just went to do more on the brake calipers, thought about how much I really don't want to do this. How do you even get those rubber sleeves to stay in place when inserting the piston? I've got work I need to do and a lot of other things on my mind.

Someone, make an offer and take this blasted thing out of my sight. It's blocking up the tools and space I need to service the silver SLK before the gearbox in that goes bang and every time I start working on it I notice that previously shiny bits of caliper have gone rusty overnight and it's just pissing me off.

If it's really that undesirable I'll just scrap it. I don't want it taking up space to try breaking it for parts.

Roffle clearly ain't happening, is it. So after some thought:

If you get your arse in get and get down here (LE17) THIS WEEKEND, with a trailer, the car is FREE.

You can buy, if you want to, the new plugs, leads and battery, and the brake caliper rebuild kit, for £125. if you don't want those then you get the dismantled manky calipers, old plugs and leads (which it starts on okay) and "a battery".

You will need a trailer as the front calipers are not fitted.

I want it out of here, out of my mental space.

OSF caliper now reassembled with new seals and piston installed. Ain't pretty and ain't right (no slider metal bits and old pads in) but it moves freely, will bleed it when I CBA.

NSF still in the parts washer because really, I cannot be arsed with this. A car so undesirable that even free on Autoshite it can sit unclaimed for two hours!

I would love it and have called everyone I can think of with no luck. It's only twenty miles from me but I don't know anyone else who could help.

I can understand where you are with this but if it's just the matter of getting the calipers sorted I am sure we could sort something, I would be happy to come over and give a hand if it helps and then you could perhaps get decent money on it. They are great cars and at £250 it was a bargain for someone, it's only the transport side that's causing issues for people I think.

it's been up for a while, and one caliper is done. I have massive work concerns after a month of utter hell with work/housing/life and have run out of "upbeat maybe" - truth is is expensive to run worthless scrap and that's basically where it's going to go I suspect. Cleaning the rust off the calipers is a pain when you know it just keeps coming back, after all, but it also needs arch trim refitting, that sort of stuff. Mojo lost.

One day people will be like "wow RX8s they're so rare". This is why!

Come on its only 20 miles surely you can go over put the brakes back together good enough to drive away. I would come after it myself but I am off on holiday tomorrow and would have to hire a trailer to come up from Somerset. Try getting it shifted by shiply it's an almost free car someone is surely going to save it even if it is to break it.

Tried Shiply, not even one quote came back. It's the time scale that's the issue. A mate who I hoped could help, initially said he couldn't but has just sent me a contact who may be able to help. The last thing Richard needs is someone pissing him about saying yes then no so I didn't want to commit until I am sure I can do something, but I know I could help out later if needed hence the offer. It seems a shame for the OP to get nothing for the car.

It is saved/sold via Facebook and departing Monday - got it assembled enough and back on wheels and drove it out of the garage using the handbrake.

Stress has now left my brain and I can get on with work instead. Next time I want an RX8 I shall read these threads - then spend £2495 on a pre-2006 one from a specialist, with a warranty!

FWIW, I actually got the knack of assembling the calipers down pretty well. Had I got my hands on something better for cleaning up the rust, like a sandblaster, I'd have been pretty happy with the results and can pop the piston back in by hand, with seal correctly engaged, in about two minutes. On the reassembled caliper even the bleed nipple is freed off. Surprisingly easy to get the dust boot in place on the piston, align, engage, pop piston in, engage upper seal and done.

I shall remember all of this for rebuilding the calipers on the SLKs - when I redid the yellow car, I wirebrushed and crudely got them tidier to lacquer and bake in the oven; the silver car, I will actually fully strip, sandblast (if my friend remembers to lend me the sandblaster he's mentioned a few times, or if I buy one) and lacquer before building with hew seals.

Would have definitely had this, but no point moaning because I couldn't have picked it up this weekend. Hope it doesn't get scrapped!
