Classics at Willington Dovecote, 1st August (now haz pics)

Anyone fancy this? 6pm to sunset at the Dovecote & Stables, Church End, Willington, Bedford, MK44 3PX. An informal free to enter village show that usually attracts a good selection of interesting vehicles. It'll probably be the last show of the year for the Maxi as we're running low on the mileage allowance.

Pretty good turnout considering it was a Tuesday evening. Plenty of the usual fodder and a fair bit I've seen before but here's a few highlights.

Bus shite

RHD Canadian car built for Australia but ended up in the UK. Odd.

The original poverty spec. Incredible to think this was made in the same year as the Mini.

The reg caused a double take as Six-cylinder's DS is GEL 341L. Makes a change from a hipster coffee wagon.

My favourite. This appears to belong to the chap in the village who also has the Alfa 164.

The aforementioned 164. This guy is clearly a winner.

Something very classy and likeable about an old Daimler, although I did mistake it for a Sunbeam Talbot at first

A Mk1 Escort GT died to make this. That was in the eighties though so it's excused.

I went to a classic car meet last night as well, at the Old Crown in Cavendish Bridge.

There were two Morris Thousands, a modern MGTF, a Stag and a TR4.

Two blokes stood drinking pints of Coke.

I consumed a pint of bitter inside the pub with the fair wife and went home, making careful note in my diary.

Nice stuff at Willington, there.    RHD Canadian Pontiacs from the GM plant at Oshawa were sold new in the UK as well as Oz but had Chevy running gear.   Commonwealth preferential duty rates made them theoretically cheaper than equivalent US cars although the price lists didn't seem to reflect that fact....
