wuvvum
That's actually not a bad article by MSN standards.
Guest
Seems to have been written from the POV of "what's semi-desirable and less than £2k". I'm sure we can collectively come up with ten actual cars that are under direct threat from this scheme - that Magnum and the nice-looking Cortina on the Ebay tat thread for starters
Ratdat
Bizarrely, I wouldn't really have many regrets about scraping one of any of those cars. Not because they are bad cars or anything but there's still a fair number of each about and there's other stuff that's much rarer and worthy of preservation. Mr_Bo11ox
Not a bad article, i've just rung my local metal recyclers and they have promised to give me first refusal on all Clio Williams' that they get in. RESULT
Cavcraft
The 205 is the only one worth keeping. The rest could get binned and I doubt many would bat an eyelid. As said there's plenty of most of those models still about.

MrRegieRitmo
This is encouraging though. One in the eye for our government... Readers' Poll 1. The government’s new scrappage scheme promises a discount of £2,000 against the price of a new car if you trade in your old car if it is 10 years old or more. Will the scheme induce you to buy a new car? 1. Yes 2. No Vote to see results Click here to see results without voting 1. How fitting!I would be more upset about a nice MK3 Cavalier going in the bin than most of those listed. For example, I quite like Minis but I think about 75% currently on the road would be better off weighed in. The Reverend Bluejeans
For example, I quite like Minis but I think about 75% currently on the road would be better off weighed in.I'd up that to 95%. Save all the nice pre '69 stuff and frag the rest of it. I went to a classic car show at Duxford recently and the Mini club wankers were all there. Balloons, fluffy toys, chrome accessories plus the inevitable pink coloured Mini 'shorty'. Minis used to be great, before they attracted the terrible dickhead misfit 'scene'. I had some lovely ones back in the day including an 'S' but they were a rite of passage on the way to a fast Escort.
Cavcraft
There was a pretty dreadful pink Mini at Chomondeley last week, worse still it had a vile bodykit and the owner (a bloke) seemed really chuffed with it.Minis (to me) are one of those cars that don't need much doing to them to make them look right. Generally, like most cars, the more crud stuck on 'em the worse they look. There's some cars on that list that I wouldn't care if I never saw one again. I'd also love to meet the lazy journos who write these articles as they don't deserve to be paid imho.

reallyloud
I agree with the worthyness of most of these cars but its bleeding obvious that they'll be saved in big numbers. Again its a fairly obvious piece presented by the finest motoring journalists on the web. The only car thats likely to become rare is the Fiat Coupe. I have already seen a few of the cars at shows already - Golf and 205 GTI's will be around forever. If these guys did some research they would have discovered genuinely interesting alternative cars like the top spec Fiat Tipos, Alfa 155, Volvo 480, Saab 9000 and Seat Toledos out there. I'm thinking, but I've never seen a 205 in a scrappy.A 205 GTI nearly squashed me in a yard in Queensferry once.Okay, so my 19 stone mate Colin jumping up and down inside it like a gibbering spastic to try and free one of the securing bolts on the seat might have had something to do with it, but he seemed happy enough, so I didn't say owt. Pillock
If these guys did some researchThere's yer problem, right there.Obviously it doesn't help that we're a bit weird. The fact that we'd walk into a burning building if we knew the keys to a dangly-mirrored Sierra were hanging up by the coat rack gives it away. But who in their right mind 'quite fancies' a Mk3 Cavalier 1.8 GL in Bronze? Autoshite does
