Andrew is a mate of mine, Italian specialist but general enthusiast, very critical of rust issues but I might pop round tomorrow or Tuesday and have a butchers

Good stuff. As I said - I wasn't casting any sort of doubt as to the guy's credentials, just that the floor of the 16 was constructed from 42 cunningly hidden rust traps stuck together with garlic paste and it helps if you've taken a few apart (and put them back together!) before.Apologies if you are already aware of this but...Check the 'back' and 'top' of the rear trailing arm mounts - the flat bit on the top gets mud flung onto it from the rear wheel.The 'inner' chassis legs that sprout from under the rear seats and anchor the torsion bars are also prone to rot. Front chassis legs and box sections in the footwells.But it's really those rear trailing arm mounts that are worst.Hope it's a good 'un!

I like those Integras, one of my teachers bought a red 1.6 EX 16v brand new in early '87 and it was the coolest car in the car park with its pop up lights, until it was trumped by the biology head's Volvo 480ES!

 

What did it replace? Rarest survivor (I reckon) of all UK Hondas: a Quintet. In fact, that was probably the last Quintet I ever saw and for some reason now the model holds a strange fascination for me. Can anyone show me evidence that they are not completely extinct????

Bizarrely both these and the Integra were also sold as Rovers in Oz.

That pickup looks to me like the recipient of some bog and a quick blow over. I bet that is nowhere near as good as some of the bidders think it is.

 

Look at the body swage line just in front of the rear arch. I don't think they were wobbly and different each side from the factory :roll:

Just going back to Hondas for a minute - look at this beauty. Tempted myself if I could justify another car....

As I mentioned on R-R, this was sold only a week or two back on eBay. I don't imagine there to be much/any profit in it, so why buy then punt on again so quick? Nothing against the car - I was hoping to take a look at in September after the J-Tin thing as it was in Northants - but my rules of shite-buying dictate I try to buy from the original/long-term owners.

Time to move it on, needs more work than I can do myself TBH (spent all day trying to get the gearbox out in the pouring rain yesterday to change the clutch). So I've given up. Plus it's kinda redundant now I have the 405 wagon.

 

EDIT: sold to the man with the flatbed Transit with "Cash 4 Cars" writ large on the side.

The problem with selling something like a Mk5 RS2000 on eBay is that you are inevitably going to get a lot of "interest" from the "Saxo Boy" set - I see from the questions that this has already been the case on yours. I hope you manage to sell it to someone vaguely sensible. An RS2 is the only Mk5 Escort (Cossie aside obviously) that I would ever consider owning - they're actually quite a good drive when they're properly sorted.

OK, I have a question. I understand it's not too difficult to import a car older than 10 years and register it here if you have the documents from its country of origin. But how would you go with something like this:

where there are no documents, and the seller doesn't even know how old it is? When I asked the vendor he said he reckons mid to late sixties. I think the 353/Knight was made from about 1966?

You would. A DVLA acceptable letter (they will send you a list of 'recgonised persons/clubs), an MOT and an Inspection by them -at a time/place of their chosing.If you get the letter -confirming 1971 first- the MOT is easier -and the Test certificate itself kinda validates-creating a self-fulfiling expectancy.Some 'recgonised' persons/clubs charge- some dont.I have asked Mike Worthington Williams -writes in one of the downmarket monthly -where there wasnt an obvious 'expert' -and he obliged -long distance for free. Understanding was he could publish -if he wanted (never has) in his Editorial.Done several -never had any real problems (on this issue anyway -their last foul up was a dandy!)

I dunno but his cash is good and non-consecutively numbered. Extra bonus points with the wife too, as it's our wedding anniversary today - she was sick of seeing it on the drive!I'd quite like another 800 one day, but perhaps one with a fully-functioning clutch and 'box... :lol:
