Chevettes are EXCELLENT, super nice to drive. I have never experienced an 1100 escort, though my old 1300 one would lick along nicely enough, you could rumble along the motorway at 70-80 mph without fuss.

1100 Escorts aren't wonderful as they're morbidly slow, but I really, really can't abide Chevettes or Vivas. A well sorted Avenger can be fun, I know a chap who dropped Lotus Sunbeam running gear into an Avenger Estate he used as his service car on rallies. That thing was bloody good fun.

Don't think so. The one my mate had was abused quite a lot (as it would be), that one looks wayyy too tidy, but you never know. All I remember about it was it had a Coventry reg plate and it was rumoured to have been an ex-press fleet job. My mate bought it because the reg was only a couple out from one of the works rally cars. Try as I might, I can't remember the plate. EVC??? V I think, but I could be miles out.

Did anyone see that tidy T&T'd Ital van in Poggleswade for £350 BIN? Mate of mine rang me to tell me about it, but by the time I got home it'd been sold.

There were 2 of these Avengers... both souped up estates & both used as service vehicles in their day. IIRC I read an article in Classic & Sportscar a couple of years or so ago about them.

Viva v Escort stuff and http://www.vauxhallv...pic.php?t=10043

Sorry to bring this up again but you've partly answered your own question by posting that URL - There's two people on that thread alone who've got similar (lower mileage) Vivas. Now, there are probably other Escort's around with similar mileage but not so prominent in the scene. I'd like to hear about them if there are, anyway. I think people are now realising that there's not many of these left now (due rallying and modifying) and want to get one while they can. It's a lot of money. I wonder what would happen in terms of pricing if 3-4 all came up on Ebay at once.

This is back on again. Still causing me distress...

..Pog, I'd prefer to spend a little more and get a proper nice Escort estate than the one you've posted, or get a standard one for a bit less. If you dont mind a project though it may be worth it. ...Looks as though it may have sold(?)

I've looked into recovering cars from NI before. I don't think it would be too difficult to get to Northern Ireland, but the ferry costs are a bit stiff and that's the sticking point. The ferry cost/times pretty much rule out the "cheap" way of going in one car with a driver, then a two-car convoy back. Comes to about £350 to do that (the late return is really pricey for some reason) and if you wanted to do it on one day (in a loose sense), you'd have to get to Liverpool for 10am, then doss about in Belfast until 10pm to get the ferry back, then drive home in the early hours of the next day. Plus there's still all the fuel costs to add on and actually persuading someone to do all this with you, for nowt.On the other hand, a one-way car ticket from Belfast to Liverpool is £75 which isn't that bad, but that'll be the morning one, so the ferry time thing creeps in there again - I think you'd struggle to find a transport setup which would get everything sorted in time for you to head back on the 10am "cheap" ferry, but the 10pm ferry is about £150 one-way! So you'd either have to suck it up and pay £150 (then drive back at a daft o'clock), or sort it all out the day before and find somewhere to sleep, not ideal.Try as I might, I've never found a way of getting a car from NI to my place for less than about £250 (being fairly optimistic about the budget). I suppose you might be able to do it a tad cheaper with an A-frame or something like Mr B did with the French 929, but I don't have balls of steel like he presumably does. Not like it couldn't be done, but it's a fair bit of money to find. Otherwise I'd have about 5 rough Charmants by now.
