H van would make a great (albeit slow) beavertail conversion. The chap was going to do that himself but didn't have the heart to chop up such a rare and original pick-up. He has some amazing Citroens...

Yup, sounds like us when we owned one! Mind you, 3100 miles in 3 weeks in something that doesn't like going above 50, is horrendously heavy to drive and which tried to set the interior carpet on fire after the exhaust got twisted is going to tax you a bit!

A friend of mine from work was all over that H truck, he went to see it but came back saying it needed about 500 years' worth of welding.

Damn you Bollox! I have fired a cheeky bid on that and forgot that Bristol is absolutely yonks away. If I have to go get it, you're in for a good hiding.
Finished for £185 in the end. Seems like a bargain to me with 69K and 10 months ticket. I reckon there's a Doctor-style car in there if you repainted the rear arches, wouldn't be too much of a faff thanks to that handy pinstripe you could paint up to. There's even a new set of povvo-spec hubcaps on eBay (if they're not still lurking behind those Motorworld specials). Then replace a headlight, give it a vac out, black up the trim, polish it up, etc.

Really wish I had the cash for that now, that sounds much more like my sort of project. Sodding cars!

If I had that, I wouldnt know whether to respray it or to leave as is, as a sort of monument to a the dying art of spraying your car outdoors with a rattle-can from behind a macular degeneration-induced cloudy patch.

Theres something very appealing about an unlowered, straight original golf.

Stuyizz off RR has/had one for sale, didn’t want a lot for it. 60k mile 1.6GL auto 5dr on a C- or a D-plate. PAS, chrome trim around the windows, metallic green. Came to him at work, possibly diverted off the scrappage scheme. I was tempted but never got to get around to viewing it, then the silver Bluebird popped up and that seemed to be more appropriate to my tastes/needs.

And a couple of modern Toyotas

I remember watching some geezers on a building site years ago in Darlington, they had a metro van and were using it to cart cement round the site! Good choice, they had one feller on the mixing machine and one driving the van. He;d come up with the van and the other feller would just empty the cement mixer straight into the back of the van, squashing the hydrolastic to the max! Then he'd set off bumping across the site (with the hatchback open) to get it emptied, presumably by a load of other fuggers elsewhere in the site. I bet they were well chuffed with the ingenuiety of this method, the van was only a year or so old as well. QULIATY

Not too bad a price either, really close to where i live actually.

Picked this up last night, it’s pretty much as good as the ad suggested! I’ll do a proper post on it with one or two of my own pic’s at some point soon. Excellent seller and the car performed faultlessly on a rainy cross-country Surrey journey then a blast home on the M25/A12/A140. Brought me into work today too. I was fearful the combination of 1.8 and auto would be a bit sluggish, but it’s pretty good actually.

Thanks for posting it Brammy, my

Some feller at work is sniffing round my Bluebird, dont know about selling it to him really as he's just looking for a reliable tank to drive 100 miles a day in until its dead, it seems a bit good for that. Anyway I just realised I havent got the logbook back yet from the DooVLA so its going nowhere for the time being.

Thats’s the thing about ‘saving’ these old, overlooked things isn’t it? Not wanting to sell them to just anybody, ending up with a self-imposed moral obligation to ensure they go to a good home. I find it’s not so much the money side of things (I usually accept a bit of a loss if it’s got to me work and been genuinely useful and/or enjoyable), it’s more not wanting to waste the time and effort I’ve put into collecting it, doing odd things to get it useable, etc.
