It still has an MOT and I thought that when a car is written off the MOT is 'voided' and you had to get a new ticket once it's repaired?Suppose it could have been written off then MOT'd again of course... Paintstripper to the nearside doors. Two panels in a standard Ford colour.Or just two door. Balls to the colour, Autoshite styles. Focuses have deffo reached bangerdom now, there's a lad near us who got one where every panel seems to have come from a different car. I'll have to go and get a pic of it later, it's awesome. The Focus seems to have held its value incredibly well over the years - last time I looked a grand would still only get you an early one with a fairly undesirable engine/spec combo (1.8 LX) and over 150K. The equivalent Mondeo would just be worth scrap.I bet the only Focus that would end up in a yard is one that has been damaged in some way, so they probably break for a tidy sum. This was the case with my old Mondeo, the main Ford dealer quoted for a secondhand bonnet, headlamp and bumper which reduced the repair bill from nearly a grand to just over £300.Even fitting secondhand parts in the right colour, and then respraying the same colour over the top is easier than fitting new parts. The problem is that bodyshops seem able to charge ever-larger amounts for repairs, so more cars get written off for very little because it'd charge hundreds just to repair a scratch. Cavcraft Posted July 22, 2009 Share Posted July 22, 2009 I've seen some repairers (and we're talking one VERY big name and some main dealers) repairing panels and charging for new genuine parts to make a nice sum ouf the job.Don't they reckon if the cost of repirs exceeds one third of the value of the damaged vehicle they automatically write it off? I don't know what new Focus doors cost from Ford but I bet when supplied, built up, fitted and sprayed up it would exceed one third value on quite a few cars no danger.Personally I'm amazed anyone buys 90% of advertised damaged cars for sale as I can't see how they can make any money at it. Once went to a local salvage auction and I swear straight, undamaged similar vehicles were cheaper at motor auctions and in the papers. Funny really but salvage sales seem to attract the kind of desperate bidders that will pay any money for any old rope.Bang on about Focus values and they're not alone. I can think of at least two other cars that you just cannot seem to get a decent model of for under a grand. Happily I own one of the other models I can think of and could easily get nearly twice what I paid for it (it was quite cheap!) 18 months ago.It also appears to me that stuff like Lagunas, Escorts.
