On about 20 quid at the moment, I like this low scrap price!

Hmmm... Looks good from the pics, but says it will need lots of work ar be used for spares... Judging by the description, the main reasons for breaking it would be that some trim is a bit loose and it has a tiny crack on the front bumper which apparently will 'cost £150 to sort out'. Worst advertising skills evAr!

1979 Lincoln Continental Mark V

I'd genuinely love one of these! This one is the smaller 6.6L V8 version (instead of the 7.5L you could get earlier), which will give great economy. I don't know what it is about these, I think it's the super square-edged looks combined with the fact that it is enormous and despite having a huge engine is pretty slow. GR8 for driving round and pretending to be an oil baron or pimp.

More US-grot:

1987 Chevrolet Celebrity

Excellent, looks like the sort of thing that would feature on "Cops" with a drunken old boy at the wheel or something.

Posted Image

1989 Ford Mustang 5.0

GR8 for pretending to be Vanilla Ice.

Posted Image

1990? Chevrolet Corsica

Can imagine this being on "Cops" too. This one would feature in some domestic dispute between a mulleted shirtless man and some shrieking fat lady.

Continuing the theme.....

1992 Buick Park Avenue Ultra

This would be used on a crack den stakeout. Look at the ludicrous front seats!

Posted Image

1987 Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight Regency Brougham V6

This would be on bricks in the yard.

Posted Image

1991? Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz

And this would be riddled with bulletholes.

Have to ponder how a lot of this stuff gets imported really, not complaining though.

I’m certainly with you on that ’79 Continental, stuff up to that era looks great. All a bit too small after then, or they tried to make it look vaguely aerodynamic. A pre-’73 full-size 4dr hardtop would be perfect for me, the wallowier and bigger the better.Round these parts, I’d say the USAF bases are a source of random Americana. What’s odd is that even the dullest US stuff sometimes seems to be remarkably expensive.

Here's a UK take on that theme. If you found the handling too 'taught' I would suggest retro-fitting some knackered shock absorbers to get the ride / handling balance 'just right'

I had a 1977 Ford LTD wagon with the same engine - it really was quite astonishingly slow for something with an engine ten times the size of the one in your Avanzato. Still great fun to drive though - appalling handling, but very comfortable, a surprisingly good turning circle and people generally stayed out of my way. It wasn't quite as bad on juice as you might have expected either - I got about 18mpg out of it, although that did drop rather a lot in town.

Here's a pitcher of it:

These really are a heap of shit. They have all the bad qualities you'd expect from a small Yank (poor build quality, crap handling, rough engines, no power) but none of the styling quirks which made earlier American cars so interesting. It's like being in something Korean, only not as well built.

That LTD Wagon looks seriously spectacular! I wonder how much power those engines put out? The 7.5L version has something like 200hp, quite shocking really.

I think the 6.6 was something like 165. Which is not that much really in over two tonnes of car with a three-speed auto. I eventually sold it to a chap who wanted the engine to put in his Sierra. I did explain that a) it wouldn't fit and B) he'd get more power out of a tuned Pinto, but he was adamant. He eventually gave up on the idea though as the car got sold on again in one piece a couple of years later.

Looks like this will be joining the ever-shifting ranks of the wuvvum fleet in the near future. Gotta be worth £132, surely?
