trigger
A couple more photos and a half arsed update incoming! After last nights car meet where it drew quite a lot of nice compliments I made a start on a few niggles today. First looked at the cambelt, it seemed pointless changing that as the belt looked good but the tensioner was a bit worn, I'm going to try and souce a new one first before changing the belt, replaced the steering belt and aux belt though. Then we tried to fit the Powerspark kit but it didn't fit with the trigger ring jammed up against the module so it wouldn't move? I'm going to ring them in the week and find out if I got the right kit Changed the plugs and all the timing on it though and it runs nicer now. Next was to sort out the interior lights which were earth problems on the door switches and bulbs in the end so they are sorted now. Then we moved on to the radio, it turned out a fuse was blown so replaced that and wired the radio in properly, it sounds a bit rubbish bit at least I have sounds now. The boot light didn't work as the cable had been crushed at some point so that was repaired and working now and the only thing not working is the central locking, it was unplugged so we plugged it back in, the front doors lock but the rears didn't and rear motors just made a noise so unplugged that again! The headlight washer pump also had a life of its own and kept coming on so the relay was unplugged for that too I celebrated by treating my dad and the family to a shit meal at a Brewers Fayre in the car. trigger
Thanks, its getting there, a couple of rusty bits to tidy up, a nearside rear mud flap and those lower underriders I ordered which aren't here yet will finish it off, 3 days of polishing made a big difference! Magnificent Rustbucket
That Pioneer stereo was an expensive unit in its day, my dad had one fitted to his car by Transound on the way in to Manchester. I imagine they're quite sought after nowadays for the full period effect. trigger

Timewaster
That stereo is perfect for the car. Don't ever change it. It's just right for listening to #Mike Read, Mike Read 275 & 285... Edit: More likely 257 Radio Orwell or Saxon Radio 240. trigger and Magnificent Rustbucket

I have a nice firm knob thank you very much! It looks to me like a Pioneer KE-1300, from about 1981 ish, (maybe a bit later but if so, not a lot) - they do seem to go for a fair bit of money on Ebay, etc., so free is a very good result! trigger
That's exactly the radio! I haven't even looked on eBay, I think the heads need cleaning so I'll have to find my old cleaning tape in the loft.
trigger
I took the family out to the seaside in it today, Mrs Trigger took full advantage of the clunge vent. Done £30 of fuel in about 120 miles too. The back box has also gone now too so I done a silly and spent more than I've got on a new stainless box from Rimmers, I'm a little annoyed as I used the 15% discount code on their website which said it was applied but I've still been charged the full amount so I'll have to ring them tomorrow. johngarty, somewhatfoolish, Dick Longbridge and 9 others

trigger
I guess that's to be expected then. I've also spoke to Rimmers now who have sorted the problem, apparently it was because I paid by PayPal.

trigger
Last night my new rear silencer arrived so I messed about trying to fit it on my back for a hour... Err... yeah that wasn't happening, the middle section pipe was at the wrong angle and needed heat to bend so i bite the bullet and took it down to my local garage. It took two blokes 15 minutes with a blow torch what it took me a hour to do last night and all for £10 and a ice cream! I also got the tow eye underriders today so fitted them as well as a couple of stickers Just need to set the carbs up now and it should be there. My cousin inherited a Y plate 2300 off his father - main dealer serviced. It was'nt quick but in terms of smoothness and silence it was on a par with the 30v V6 in my A6. trigger
trigger
Small update for photos, I spent a while trying to fit my Powerspark ignition kit but I couldn't get the car to start on it so put the points back in but now it's a little flat and doesn't start so well. I'm going to get it booked into garage have get the carbs balanced too. Meanwhile it's now got boot struts which work!. And a new one of the interior. Then today I took it to its first show, I took the opportunity to get some photo with the Dolly whilst there. danthecapriman, NorfolkNWeigh, TagoraSX and 19 others

You've just made me stay up far later than intended (obviously one video leads to another, you can't just go on YouTube for five minutes). Thanks. trigger
There hasn't been a awful lot to report lately but that's not to say nothing's been happening. On Saturday i went over dad's in it and we had a play with the carbs and timing (again). They were miles apart from each other so they have now been adjusted that they are balanced correctly, they were running lean and the idle was too low, now they have been set up correctly it's far more responsive. The only issue now is that it's puffing quite a bit of blue smoke out, more than before. I'm not sure if its rings or valve stems or what at the moment, one theory though is that the garage I bought it off said they changed the oil but it seems very thin, we are wondering if it's had the wrong stuff put in and it's running past the bores, I've bought some 20w50 to replace it with. Another problem is that the cam belt tensioner has started to squeal and grumble so I've took the car of the road to replace it, annoyingly the tensioner is unavailable anywhere but a Ford Pinto engined one is meant to fit with a little fabricating so I'm waiting for a new one to arrive. Meanwhile I've done a couple of bodywork repairs, the scabby rear door is looking a bit tidier, it's far from perfect as the lower skin lip has mostly rotted away but I cleaned it up and put some fresh seam seal on it for now. Whilst at it I done the small scab on the inner arch to sill edge too. Its getting there now. greengartside, worldofceri, cort16 and 18 others
