RichardK
Volvos are awesome.LHD is easy; it's more of a drag when you have something powerful and want to drive angry, a 144 is not and won't inspire that. Plus you can pull up, park and step out onto the pavement all cool-like. Have you done Vauxhall FE yet?
danthecapriman
Mechanical parts are easy to find. Body panels vary. VOC Forum isn't worth the effort but the membership is to get cheaper insurance. Volvo clubs have been going a bit 'People's Front of Judea' for the past 18 months. This. It's good for the discount but if you do use the forum it's nowhere near as pleasant as this place! There's some right opinionated self righteous sods on there. Almost every thread you read on their version of the open forums your half expecting people to be having it out, most of the time over nothing.I use the 700/900 model section occasionally and steer clear of the shit and arseholes. trigger
Well me being me, I've decided I don't really want a LHD, especially as I'll never be able to sell the bugger on once i get predictably bored of it 6 months later so tomorrow I'm off to view something completely different based on a really shit photo seen on Facebook. trigger
I'm really hoping this is as nice as it sounds, looking for a new toy has been doing my head in, i see stuff i really like but it's either overpriced or so far away and I'm very fussy too, I was after that Pre Facelift Mk2 Granada 2.3L Estate posted on the Ebay thread but it's in North Wales, the seller won't drop the price because of "all the interest" and collecting it would add another £200-300 to the price. So I'm off to see this instead based on this photo and a phone call! Vince70, worldofceri, flat4alfa and 5 others
Pillock
Looks nice! But they'll have to move that scrap out the way when you buy the 911.... Slartibartfast and dome
Ghosty
SD1 I'm guessing. Oi, Cleon-Fonte!
Uncle Jimmy
Rather than a 144 I'd try and find a 145, 142 or 164. All Volvos of that era are tough and reliable compared to mainstream shite. They do rust, especially earlier ones. They can be inexpensively modified to corner better, use less fuel and make more power. Injected versions are suprisingly quick though Bosch systems can be a pain to fix. Borg warner 3 speed auto invariably set up wrong by bodgers, looked after they are reliable and effective. A very good choice if you want to build a repro rally car; a 142/144 was my plan until the Saab bit me.. trigger
trigger
SD1 I'm guessing. Oi, Cleon-Fonte!Yep, it's a 1983 2600 SE Auto like Breadvans one was, 83000 miles, new mot and apparently in great condition, I'm a little apprehensive as I've heard lots of horror stories about the 6 cylinders regarding head gaskets and camshaft so I'm not going to jump into it without being careful. Realistically I don't really need it and if I get the Orion later in the year I might struggle with trying to tax two cars and storing them but I've wanted a SD1 for so many years that I feel that I need to scratch the itch. mat_the_cat, Bren, oldcars and 3 others
Ghosty
To be fair it's a solid investment, and a reasonably practical car too. The Orion is an if after all... Bren and trigger
Brodders
It's probably a good time to scratch the itch anyway, as the prices for decent ones are only going to go up. Thinking about it, I don't think I have seen an SD1 for quite a few years. Even at the local car shows I have been to they seem to be non-existent. cort16
I like the 2600 but I can't help but thinking that's a load of money for one.I've now pretty much given up on owning anything pre mid 90's as prices of even shit stuff has gone nuts.

trigger
It's still available but it's too rotten for me, it will need hours and hours of mig work before you even start on the mechanics and that's out of my skill level. This is the inner wing which was the worse bit. oldcars

Lacquer Peel
I think £2500 is a pretty good price for that and you should make it again when you sell it, even tidy 244s are selling for that much now. In your position, "would".
BorniteIdentity
^I'm still surprised now that I sold that 1991 240 saloon for £2k. 110k is good mileage but not particularly low, but lovely Volvo's will always be wanted.
Popular Post trigger
Anyway, I've been to view the 2600, At first impressions I was a bit unsure, the edge of the arches are a bit rusty, the paints flat and it has a couple of scabs on the bottom of the doors, one back door in particular and the rear looked quite high. The garage owner who seems a decent enough chap came out showed me around It, it started well and ran nicely, the interior was very clean and tidy too other than small drop in the headlining above the drivers head but it really is small, the trim in the side on the C post was tatty and the radio is rubbish but that's all superficial on a old car. I was warming to it but not at the price it was up for, the power steering was a little noisey at first too but we think its from lack of use and he's changing it anyway. I then took it for a drive, wow! That sold me! What a smooth ride! No jerkiness from the transmission like my old 190E, a wonderful sounding 6 cylinder up front with plenty of poke! What a car! Long and short of it I've got the price down to a more sensible (although still slightly more than I'd like) amount and I'm collecting it next Saturday after he's serviced It, changed the power steering fluid and fixed the central locking as we couldn't even open the boot. One thing I did forget was the cambelt, I'll have to get that sorted. The garage used to a be a BL dealer in the 80s (thanks to SL for the photo). And a bonus photos of a couple of other cars hes got in stock. wuvvum, M'coli, Sir Snipes and 48 others

trigger
I thought that but apparently that's normal for a SE, Someone recommended Vitesse springs to lower it which I might well do. Six-cylinder

vulgalour
It's the wheels more than the suspension making it look high. If this were on steels and trims it wouldn't look like it was trying to float away bum first. One of those weird optical illusions.
