Bit of black electrical tape on the last 2 letters would make it look like 'GE'. Box ticked.

SiC's MGB thread got to 22 pages before a car was actually bought so it's got a way to go yet.

Boom.

attachicon.gifobama-mic-drop.jpg

I have to admit I was very very tempted until I clocked the fucking rancid wheels on it, which also immediately made me think, what other chav trinkets does it have, aftermarket double din wanky flashy led head unit? check, lexarse rear lights? check.

Verdict, its been barried, fuck knows what else Kev pikey ned has done to it that doesnt show in a picture, yes lights, wheels and a stereo can be undone, but what if you pull the stereo and lights out and the wiring is fucked, choc blocks and scotch locks everywhere, 1 key, not a scrap of paperwork with it, and just scruffy where stuff has been pulled off, ripped apart, broken bits everywhere, verdict? scrap fodder, am oot!

I could use my car funds to invest in a garage and get my mates one, but no garages available around here I could find doing a search, if i did find one? My Mrs would probably insist on putting her brand new car in it and then the stepson would be on my case to do it too, can just see it now "why you putting that ancient worthless old heap of junk in a garage when weve a brand new car lying on the road?" and hitting out with "its my garage i want my Escort in it" would probably be met with a look that could kill, and in the doghouse for days. Thats even if my pal stuck to it and gave me the thing. Lives very much in the past, my old Ayrshire plated Fords are a reminder from the place and era I grew up in he'd say, such old relics they mean too much to me I cant part with them, hes told me a few times he would gift me the car when ive offered to buy it, IF i had a garage, hes then said hes thought about donating it to a museum because he wouldnt want it going to someone who would ruin it or for it to not be taken care of, and then changes his mind and has fell in love with it again, its almost a weekly occurence.

It seems this may be a long term task and one will most likely turn up in the most unlikely of places when im least expecting it.

So you're looking for an Escort that's never been messed with?....
Good luck with that
Wheels can be swapped, lights put back to std and possibly sold to another owner
Wiring soon returned to std as well with a bit of time and a soldering iron

hes thought about donating it to a museum

Crikey, I wouldn't want to be one of the big museum acquisition managers, having to enter that bidding war when a MK6 Escort finally comes available to enter their collection. Having to beat out all the domestic museums would be stressful enough, never mind once the international powerhouses like the Smithsonian or the Prado catch wind of the once in a lifetime opportunity.

having had 36 Reliants (mind you they are fetching coin now) i would never berate someones desire to own a certain car,but i think this may end up being a fruitless search. They were horrible new, unloved while being used, put away wet then scrapped. Most that are left now have passed from council estate to council estate until they become barry/scrap fodder.

The games been raised now to a Glaswegian Escort with Dealer plates, slightly scruffy but not too rusty, ideally of a special edition, with 2 keys, completely unmodified with a full service history for under £500.

I'm looking now, I'm going to find this Escort if it kills me. How far will you travel?

To be fair, I wouldn't buy that Egham Escort either, as it has the infamous 'runs drives stops as it should' line. Thanks for describing the basic functions of a car m9.

The Reading reg one is nice though. If I had an eagerness to own one (I don't) I'd have it outside already. I still maintain you finding a local one and letting the owner know you like it will probably get you one quicker....
