Not exactly what Hendry would be after but this is probably one of the best ones I've seen for a while. I'd buy this and drive it across Europe on a massive road trip.

Not exactly what Hendry would be after but this is probably one of the best ones I've seen for a while. I'd buy this and drive it across Europe on a massive road trip.


I don't really think the mk4 Astra interior suits it. Interesting conversion though!

To the rest of you, good things come to those who wait, if I'm to buy one with as little rust as possible I need to find one such First, that isn't way way overpriced.

It's taken ten pages, for me to ask but when did the mk3 facelift / series 2 start being the mk4, because all this talk of mk6's and I'm seeing pictures of mk5's

 

In addition when did the Cortina Mk4 Series 80 become the mk5 ?

 

I demand that everyone stops getting it wrong. 

 

You may as Well call the Cavalier mk2 face lift a mk3 - or Ascona D

And the Vectra A would have to be a Cavalier Mk4

The 1986-90 Escort has always been called a Mk4, I've never heard anybody call it a Mk3. I've never heard the Cortina 80 being called a Mk4 either.

I had a D reg mk4 / Mk3 series 2 Xr3i and for a shortwhile was in the XRwankersPolishersClub, and it was definitely a mk3 series 2 in 2001

 

My dad had a mk4 series 80 Cortina, from new and I remember the brochure.

Y plate is almost late registration madness on a 'scort.

As stated above any escort worth having will be the higher tax brand. As long as a cars pre 2006 the tax is much of a muchness really.

Cortina 80 - correct.
Even Ford call the 1986 onwards Escort the MK4 though. I did see reference to a Mk7 on some sites too.

Same, although it confuses me, Id understand series 1/2 RS Turbos if they were both mk3 or both mk4, but as ones a mk3 and the other a mk4 I dont get the need for series 1/2, also why just the RS Turbo? 

 

I find it really baffling when people go on about series 2 RS Turbo, 88 spec, 90 spec and all this. I mean its not like every car doesnt get a spec update every couple of years, theres more obvious changes between an 88 and a 90 model year Sapphire Cosworth and they dont get referred to as 88 spec, 90 spec, etc.

 

Are these just unofficial titles RS lickers have given these Escorts because they think they are so special?

Suppose some people will try and call the mk5b/mk5 facelift Escort a mk6, these are the people that every time a car is facelifted think it should be handed a new mk.

But that is a very low mileage, well looked after and tidy looking example. I don't reckon it will be hanging around for too long at that price if it is as good as the pictures make it seem.

My dad had a mk4 series 80 Cortina, from new and I remember the brochure.


D for doom! Bet the rust monster has had that one away?

Mk3 = grille
Mk4 = bonnet extended bewteen the lights

I've had an RS1600i and a mk4 RST. Only one of them was a Series anything.

Safe now. Everything's lead lined.

I had an Escort Mk5 1.6 LX for my first car. 1992/J. Bought in 2001 for £1000, it remains the most expensive car I've ever bought. It was the CVH engine with an actual carb!

 

It was a bit crap. I have many miserable memories of trucking up and down the M6 to see my then girlfriend in Reading in it. She turned out to be a right cow.

 

Not the car's fault I suppose but I wouldn't have another one. Even more annoyingly, I had been offered a mate's Mini Clubman 1275 for £1000 and turned it down because it was slightly modified (alloys and a rebore to 1293) and I couldn't get insurance. I was young and didn't realise that I should just lie about the insurance. I still regret it.

 

The Escort was a nice metallic blue though.
