Event SL’s FOTU and TEC big weekender, July 2016

Up-to-date reportage here, just squeezing in my FOTU photos the day before this year’s event. I think coverage of it was lost in various forum problems that took place last summer. My son and I made a bit of a weekend of it and took in a visit to Silverstone, camping the night and going to the Toyota EC’s show at Billing on Sunday, here’s some of what we saw…..

I’m not going to upload all my photos, more are on Flickr if you want to see them, but here’s a selection from FOTU itself. In summary, probably the best show I’ve been to for seeing once-common everyday cars (plus the odd bit of exotica) without having to find them amongst a sea of the usual classic show fodder.

That’ll do for FOTU 2016. In summary, I rated it highly and I hope tomorrow’s is just as good (if not better). Rest of the weekend to follow…….

Fond memories there and hopefully tomorrow will be even better. My dad's Zafira even managed to sneak into the background of the Consul pic - we have something rather more suitable this time though.

I left FOTU and headed for Silverstone, as it was literally just around the corner and in return for my son putting up with my kind of rubbish I promised him a trip there to see GT cars etc racing.

After that we trundled off to Billing Aquadrome via the canal down at Stoke Bruerne. We had a canal boat holiday when I was young and we went through the seven (?) locks there, so it was a bit of shameless nostalgia for me.

 

We got to Billing. Some non-Toyotas seen:

But the TEC’s annual show was our real reason for being there. Maybe not quite as much there as they’ve had in the past, but still a great variety and other Japanese makes have always been welcome.

I think that was their last time at Billing, which is a shame as I’ve been going to shows there with them dating back to 1994. I’m not sure where they’re off to this year, but it’s when I’m away so I can’t go anyway.

And that’s the end of what turned-out to be an excellent weekend. FOTU will just be a day trip this year, too much other stuff at home on even if I could have found another event to attend.
