Since having my Mustang I have joined two clubs (or Groups) one the national MOCGB the other a facebook group and one of them in just the space of two weeks has gone wrong :(

I am not posting this to gain pity I am posting i guess to

A; Get things off my chest

And

B; Because I see this group as the exact opposite

;)

When I was looking for the right car I joined the official Owners Club and whilst they are a bit old school stuck and stuck in their ways the members do indeed have a say ;)

The local area secretary invited me along to a local meet and introduced me to a guy who had the same model and year I was looking for and I really thought id found a good friend in this guy until he turned out to be Admin of a Rival Facebook Group.

We remained friends for around 3 months but about a month in at a local meet this character came along and insisted my thought to be friend to join his into their group were were not asked rather railroaded into it! and for a couple of months all went well until 25th last month :(

Everything kicked off because we had a car cruise and there was a briefing which some of the group didn't adhere to!

Because this happened

Nobody waited for anybody else often speeding when there was opportunity to pull over to let those behind catch up.

Instructions were unclear and no map provided,

Route was kept a guarded secret that really should of been published to the group prior to the cruise to allow members to do their own homework, possibly even a dummy run to familiarize themselves with the route.

It was what amounted to a two hour run if the route had been direct but as it was over complicated and zig zagged all over the making it take 4 hours.

The first break was 3 hours in!

Some roads were unsuitable for Our Cars

As a result of the shambles it was several people including us got very lost.

So I made some constructive criticisms

My suggestions were

Shorter less complicated route

Route/Map published in advance

More stops for Loo breaks etc

If any of the group got lost the leading cars should pull over to allow catch up

Research if the roads are actually suitable for all cars not just the leading car.

Because of the organization and the lack of respect by some of the briefing we got lost!

We were ever so slightly miffed off having got lost,we might of brushed it off but talking to other members upon arrival and the end I was greeted by banter of others complaining of exactly the same issues.

But everybody was talking among themselves with the Oooo we cant approach the throne of the great "I am" and say anything but I felt it needed to be said within our group so the same mistakes would not happen in the future.

For that I was warned for having an opinion...........................................

?

Apparently I have to discuss such things that effect all members behind closed doors as they members are not allowed to debate anything within the group themselves...............................

Round ended scissors and responsible adult nanny state syndrome as non of mere mortal that make up the group are entitled to an opinion or to voice it in an adult way.

They didn't like my approach so just one week later attending another show I felt an opportunity had been missed as the club gathering had no flags present,no flags no advertising no publicity ????

I made the innocent comment that is was a shame they were not there ????

I was answered in a very nasty and sarcastically negative way by and apparently very important person with a face that obviously fits the groups criteria that others were welcome to take them along and that little Mr Hissyfit couldn't be everywhere at once!

I replied as what he had said seemed like a question (ie you can take them if you should so wish) "We had offered to take them along some two months previously but was told no need they will be there"

For this I was first shouted at on the actual group in quite a humiliating way then not content with that I had a second kicking in a PM.

Nothing was done about the holy one the flag bearer and his sarcastic reply which really was the only trouble making in that thread.

The main admin wont reply properly to anything you ask and answered by saying "End Of" in a Neanderthal Chest beating Caveman fashion so as I was informed I had to PM Admin I contacted two other admin who I had thought were my friends to be ignored by one and told I was overreacting by another!

Apparently I was overreacting because its unacceptable to say

It was a shame the group flags were not present and sadly we had no point of group promotion at the event

And then calmly answer a question but with "somebody had indeed offered to take the flags but were told there was no need"

That is unacceptable! That is negative apparently? but shouting at a member on an open group for all to see that's perfectly acceptable because your the boss hmmm?

That very day another member also stated there were no flags not a thing was done to them ????

I saw it as I was targeted, bullying takes many different guises and to pick one person up on something that's been already said by another party but seen as acceptable by them that's bullying plain and simple.

Ive had people I thought were my friends ridicule me over this and others good as stab me in my back ????

I was told to grow up as "Its only a Facebook group!"

Yes I agree its not worth it my reason for this post is I was targeted,Picked on,Bullied and that is never acceptable.

it also seems that if they are wrong you have no voice you just have to accept your beating so to speak ????

They are not worth it,I know who my friends are now but I just wanted to get this off my chest.

How bloody ridiculous is it that grown men have to act like little spoiled children and pick on somebody because they stand their ground?

Don't think it will blow over it cannot be fixed and that's their fault not mine.....................................

I don't see Autoshite like this, yes there were the server issues etc yadda yadda but people have always been allowed to have their say ;)

I see my mustang as I would see any other car I want it safe, reliable and well maintained :)

I don't really like the side I have now seen of the Facebook Group I am taking about here as its all Mod Mod Mod beautiful people and thugs and now some of my so I thought friends are all falling away as it seems they have no mind of their own they have been instructed to not have their own opinion :(

Am I bothered? Not really................

Ive now been banned and the de-friending has started as the members are being told by the head Ape to not talk to me!

So my main reason for this post is to get things off my chest, the group is no loss but they seems to have their fingers in other pies around here and are trying to make things difficult for me :(

I like the fact here that I am not considered a "Chosen One" you never chose me rather I just fell in and you popped the kettle on and accepted me for who i am and for that I am truly grateful :)

I must try being more shite and in 2018 the shiny daily is going ;)

Why do other groups and clubs have to take everything so seriously? why cant they just be more like us?

Jo

Yup

When I had my Benz i just stayed out of it all I was in the MBOCGB because my insurance went from £250 a year to £95 by paying £25 a year ;)

I joined the MOCGB for similar reasons ;)

The Facebook group has 1000+ members, had 700 when we were railroaded into joining,I see now we were pawns in the lets get over 1000 members then once not needed a lame excuse made and we were discarded :(

1000+ Members but its only ever 20 people who get their photos plastered everywhere as they are the elite, the beautiful morons and the other 980 are for the look how many members we have factor!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not bothered now I can get on with real life and know that adding £1k rims wont improve me life LOL!

What a bunch of wankers.

Sounds like you are best out of it Jo. Shame though as they can be a source of advice and support, however, their really crappy attitude and behaviour speaks volumes.

Start your own fb group - bollocks to them.

Yep, as Bub said, come to Shitefest and have a laugh.

Nah this place has just as good, and more freely available advice than most other places. Has your obscure 50s car only sold in Brazil got a problem? Probably had someone here who has had one and knows everything about them! Then your modern breaks, and you need help fixing it? Yup someone else is more than happy to help + advise.

Yep, one make forums.

I no longer bother with the one Merc forum i was in, too much back biting and bickering, and following the appointing of a new sainted mod it became selective PC all to ready to pull the racist card...how you pull the race card on a car forum i'm fucked if i know.

Can't be arsed.

This place is different completely, lots of mild piss taking which only really gets nasty when politics or religion rear their ugly heads (i don't get the hatred therein those subjects but hey ho), but no bugger's got their head impaled up their arse on other subjects and most here are three parts barking anyway, self included, but a generally fiendly bunch who accept each other's differences strengths and weaknesses.

It's all mad when you think about it. I like this shaped lump of metal more then I like that shaped lump of metal even though they both do the same.

They honestly sound like wankers. Most people are wankers. 99% of Facebook is for wankers. As said above one make forums just don't work, the discount they could offer on insurance isn't worth it in the end to put up with their shit.

As has been said before Autoshite is very different from other sites and long may it stay that way.

Think the mistake i made was getting involved? Was never really involved in the Benz Club just payed my dues and used the benefits ;)

Never went to the meets though my club card got me free refreshments on their club stand at last years NEC Classic Car Show :)

Which was nice ;)

Most people are wankers.

True dat.

I belong to a single one-make club purely as others have said for the insurance benefit - I never attend rallies etc although the local branch but one (not my county, an adjoining one) has some good folk in it who I am quite happy to meet up with on my terms when the occasion arises.

I don't know why we expect any different, really, but we do - we imagine that common interest/love for a particular vehicle will somehow transcend all the differences and foibles that irritate me in people who happen to drive other makes / models of car.   I used to think it was me, now having walked this planet for nearly 60 summers I realise it isn't me - it really is all the other fuckers.

You can drive, enjoy, repair and maintain your car without anybody else's endorsement, encouragement or ridicule and I will echo many others who say that this place is an oasis on the internet -- people might piss in the lagoon now and again but the waters soon clear and there are far less monkeys throwing coconuts around.....

A lot of one make forum are pretty clicky, you'll have one person whos like the Oracle who everyone goes to and what he says goes but if you disagree or go against what he says everyone just turns on you.

I mustard mitt that both Morris Marina Nationals I've been on are very refreshing as everybody is very friendly, road runs are well planned out with clear instructions and maps and no body takes themselves too seriously (well they own Marinas so you can't really).

Never actually attended any car club meets but have joined a couple of one make clubs in the past, just for the combined know how of the other members really. Never really got any useful advice as everyone disagreed with what advice was on offer! Now I just use this place. It is all I need. Never been let down and had some truly remarkable offers of help/advice/support and wisdom. Plus the great feeling of 'belonging' to what amounts to a nationwide club of like minded folk.
Brilliant.

I've said it before, not least when I had my tantrum the other week: Autoshite is home, it's where new arrivals are made to feel welcome.  Where there's usually some sort of help/advice available, and if we laugh at your new purchase, it's only because we've already had one, and possibly still have it.

With the bickering that went on a few weeks ago, what I really wanted was to bang some heads together, but I've got over that now and the forum has returned to what passes for normal.  Also, in the midst of it all, one member in particular volunteered to help me out with something that was causing vast amounts of stress, for which I shall always be grateful.  THAT kind of gesture is the true spirit of Autoshite, as I've found on previous occasions.  The Shiters I've met in person have all been splendid chaps and chapesses.

This IS the place to be!

I always was a non clubber, lone wolf, I hate car shows with a passion and have a healthy dislike for "cruises" or "rallys".

Therefore I constantly banter with a friend of mine, who sometimes buys cars for the sole reason that they enable him

to participate in certain events (Mille eligible, etc.). To be fair, the majority of his cars are delightfully half arsed and he

has them because he likes them, but there is this element mixed in.

I think everyone has a different motivation to own a certain car.

Some are true collectors, some are investors, some are living out their profile neurosis, some are pretentious arseholes,

some think their dillywong is too small, some are a combination of some or all of this.

Only very few are actually using their old chod in the sense it was originally intended, i.e. as a means of transport.

And they are all here.

And that, I think, is the difference.

That's it. I don't bother with meets or the forum any more. The clique can do and say what they like because the internet is always right. Even when it's wrong.

Can we not have this thread turn into an Autoshite bias confirmation chamber? Makes my flesh creep.
Autoshite's a long way from being perfect and has way too much inverted snobbery for my liking.
