Right.

This is still bubbling away.  I've had nothing short of a fucking nightmare trying to locate a Distributor, as the 1.6 einspritzung was so rare here in the UK.  I have a lead on one from scandinavia which is £100 - Bosch can get me a new one for £200 with the VAT on - but Powerspark et al can not help.

I found myself nearby earlier on so gave the lady a call and went to visit.  Very nice.  Very nice indeed.  The car was alright too.

Have some pics.

From what I gather this lady inherited the car from her Dad who was a long term owner.  They used it up until December 2016 when an FTP was diagnosed by the AA as a kippered hall sensor in the dizzy.  It has full service history from what I'm told and, despite being very pink and not actually working, looks very nice.  It will definitely polish up well, because the door shuts etc are very red still.

They don't want any money from me, only for it to live.  So that's the intention.

Innit the same as a late golf mk21600 ?

I've got HBOL for Aldi 80 if you want it

Possibly. But possibly not. Info is so vague. It is certainly not the same as a Seat 1.6 which, weirdly, used the same dizzy as the 1.8 Audis.

Not sure anything on that Vohksvargen would be of any help apart from steels and tyres (if they're good and match).

Guest Hooli

Hopefully someone with a better knowledge of these engines can confirm, but this looks like a hall sensor that'd fit in a dizzy to me...

£76 new.

Reposting this as it still looks like a hall effect sensor to me, anyone know the engines well enough to confirm?

That could be a 2.0 engine (ABK) code - The size is usually on the engine block same side as the alternator  and is cast in raised numbers

That sticker on the timing belt cover should have the engine code on it too

This year has just flown. Genuinely. Can’t believe this saga started in July!

I can’t thank Alf892 enough; he’s been a legend. Sadly, the AA diagnosis appears to be incorrect. The distributor has now been tested up and is ok.

Time is running out for the little wagon, and it needs to be moved in the next couple of weeks.

We now suspect the ignition module and or crank sensor. If anyone spots any bits going cheap for a 1.6e Audi 80, please holler.

The ignition bit looks like this. There are plenty on eBay that look wrong. https://m.buycarparts.co.uk/vemo/7079025

Any help appreciated.

It'll be the TCH ignition module me reckons.

Have you got access to an oscillascope and can you check the output of the hall in the dissy?

If that's working, it'll be the TCH, which I think is bulkhead mounted on these.

The 1.8 and 1.6 engines use the same stuff, I believe it'll be the same Digifant injection system as used on the MK2 Golf 8v engine as well.

Crank sensor at GSF is listed as P/N 929VG0780 for that car.

Distributor Cap is 921VG0040

Rotor arm is  922VG0070

Hell sensor (Ignition Pulse sensor) is 923VG0180

You can probably cross refernce those GSF part numbers against OEM ones, and that'll give you a clue what cars you need to be robbing from.

Hope that's helpful.

Just to add......

Coil does not switch.........but dizzy OK.

Dizzy has single cut out on rotor so creates 1 pulse per rotation......so crank sensor used with early ecu to do the sums.

I'd happily put in a points dizzy in BUT don't know what effect it would have on other systems........

The Bosch place I used to test the dizzy is quite old school but no longer has the kit to test the module/switch. I'll get a picture of the this to see if anyone has one.......

Best plan at the moment is to buy the crank sensor and module secondhand........mainly because although we can find correct new ones listed we cannot find stock.

Yesterday... Autoshite Hero Alf892 and I went to rake this up, as the owner’s husband was all up for scrapping it this side of Christmas.

Alf managed to blag an Ifor trailer for the cost of a bottle of whiskey, and his sister is generously allowing it to rest at her place for a short space of time. We’ve now managed to get the parts required, but it felt easier to pull it rather than fix it and drive off into the sunset.

This isn’t it.

Check my rig yo!

The Granvia is a proper good at towing. Much displacement coupled with an auto box made very light work of the task. The trailer was so well behaved that we arrived with ease at Farnham Common.

Reversing across a live lane of traffic on an A Road was pretty unnerving; especially as I’ve only ever pulled a hobby trailer before. We pushed the Audi onto the neighbours driveway and I backed up to collect it.

At this stage... we got beached. A quick jack up of the trailer front got us moving again.

And off we went!

I’ve left out all of the scary shit for the protection of the innocent.

Here it is, back home!
