Have a bump because although I wasn't fond of our old one (gutless, horrible to drive, quite ugly, needs longer gearing for 70) it never actually went wrong at all. MikeR Posted July 14, 2017 Share Posted July 14, 2017 price on these is rock bottom , they are the biggest load of Sh*** ever made , the steering is a major job to fix , the subframe rots , handles like a sloppy fish tank on sponge wheels , and the rear seats sum it all up , when ever you want to put one seat down , you lose 2 seats , not like in sensible cars were you can put 1/3 down and can still fit 2 butts in ...mine will also be available soon , I am just using up the tax on it .... good points ....... make a good chicken run ! mitsisigma01 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

She used to drive it every now and again whilst we were selling it just to use the petrol up/keep using it and in the end she said how horrible it was! I never got on with it, the rear seats are a pain, especially if you don't put the middle on down first, the two outer ones jam. I nearly ripped my fingernails off the latch for the middle one a few times too. I had a lucky escape with my last Vauxhall , this one reamed me out , everything about it is half arsed and over stretched Corsa parts and I have yet to meet a happy Meriva owner , perhaps not ( ish ) , those that rented one for a short while where happy to give it back !!! Hendry Posted July 15, 2017 Share Posted July 15, 2017 Ive never liked the Meriva either, and I loved my Corsa C which everyone knows the Meriva is basically. I have no idea of the point of them either except for folk who wanted a Corsa which rode high up, other than that its no more spacious really, horribly designed, ugly shape, interior is horrible, it was basically a biscuit arsed attempt at a small MPV on as cheap a budget as possible, and it shows. I cant even say the newer one is any better, its much the same except with Astra J switchgear, even the struts and stuff on them are half arsed, where they run Astra H hubs and so on whereas the rest of the newly introduced Vauxhall range at the time was running different stud patterns etc. the Meriva was just a rob the parts bin special. Utterly hateful things, they surely must be up there with Sintras and Agilas as not Vauxhalls finest hour in recent times. Strange thing is Corsa Cs arent bad wee cars, they do the job they were designed for quite effectively, and so you think "a small MPV based on this, that surely wouldnt be too bad" and it catches you offguard, you are never prepared for how mind numbingly, boring and depressing these heaps are. MikeR Posted July 23, 2017 Share Posted July 23, 2017 just whipped the after market radio out of the Meriva prior to junking it soon , and the steering went completely belly up , so pulled all the iso connectors out and the aerial lead and started fiddling with terminating the "Speed" wire to earth or 12v via 100 ohm , nothing no change , then I saw that the aerial inner and outer were shorted together , parted them and steering ok ??????????? .... for now ????????? , this car is F in weird Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
SiC Posted July 23, 2017 Share Posted July 23, 2017 Makes sense. The PAS will use the speed sense wire to know how much assistant to give at different speeds. The radio will use it for changing volume depending on the speed. That connected to the wrong line, i.e. short to battery or ground, will mean it can't detect the speed. So then throw up a warning. MikeR Posted July 28, 2017 Share Posted July 28, 2017 I always wondered if the problems were down to interference , mobiles would set the steering off , even one outside the car , so it sort of makes sense that the long outer screen from aerial base to battery earth via the radio , was causing ground bounce which made the sensitive bits in the steering get upset , and when it rained ?? it got worse ! ,and I have now been driving with my mobile in my pocket , not the back of the car , switched on , not in aircraft mode .....not even had to restart the car to fix the steering ...... so if this car behaves now , and big IF ...... do I fix the other problems instead of scrapping it ????? shopping list would include , front subframe , rear caliper , drop link , rear shocks ..... 100 notes ? a lot of swearing ... MikeR Posted August 15, 2017 Share Posted August 15, 2017 It played up again !!!, but managed to do some 450 miles on holiday , the engine rattle sounded a bit different , it missed a bit when pulling at low speed and the steering assist didnt on a number of occasions ,also all the idiot lights all lit up a number of times ,and the petrol gauge flat lined at empty ,,,, lucky the OBD reader was packed !!so we have used the tank of petrol up and booked on its final trip with Motorwise for Thursday morning , who offered twice the stingy rate of 50-60 quid with a pickup from home for 114 , so the car only cost me 400 quid in the end plus expendables and a lot of grief over the year , the new car was cheaper to insure at 209 quid a year and the road tax is cheaper ,I would be wary of buying another Vauxhall after that one ......... beko1987 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
