Travelling To France MKII - Another GGG Localised Climate Improvement Active

Ah, lovely Lille, town of my French family.

My grandmother used to tell a great true* story about flicking v signs at Hitler while under occupation. But they did genuinely have a German soldier billeted with them. And supposedly my great grandfather was in the resistance, but I've yet to find decisive evidence.

Can't find any Favorit parts in Lille, so as you were :-)

Bonne chance, les gars.

Everything was closed. Everything.

For the past 35 odd years, I have been unable to verify the hype about French Cuisine.

I have never eaten any of it, because it has never been made available to me.

Regardless which day of the week, or whether it's breakfast, lunch, or dinnertime, everything is closed.

We went to a huge shopping mall near Calais on the way back to do some shopping.

Amazingly a few shops inside that mall were actually open. So some shopping could be done, but for example

cigarettes were not obtainable.

They also had a food court, but only a selected few of the restaurants were open, amongst other two Irish Pubs,

and several Pizza and Burger joints. Only one Brasserie was open and when we went in, we were immediately

told by a panic stricken waiter that 'zee keetshain iz clozede'.

So I was relegated to eat what I always have been relegated to to eat in France - a burger.

Shopping was not entirely unsuccessful, though.

And here is the actual raison de la trip:

Great to see the Beast Estate getting used as it should be. Should make light work of that sort of continental trip.

You've probably done more mileage in it since you've had it than I did since 2008 up to early this year! I hope the old queen behaves herself for you...

The Granada was perfect for the trip. Comfortable, relaxing and still keeping pace.

A dustbin, a massive ship, a boat. Wonder whose tombstone that is.

Nothing like having your car bathed in a salt water mist for an hour.
