Popular Post dollywobbler
Several people on The Internet told me I should buy a G-reg Proton. So I did. The car has been in the same family from new, has been written off a couple of times, has mis-matched front panels (due to the most recent write-off), a taped-up sunroof, smells of dog, has two days of MOT left, has a 'braking issue' and has an oil leak. Naturally, I had to have it. Well, it was scrap value. I could hardly refuse. Even Mrs DW thought it was a good idea. I must check if she's been drinking again... The engine bay is not concours. No-one seemed to know why the brake master cylinder and servo are covered in white gunk. Having actually taken it for a test drive, and confirmed that it could at least stop, I handed over some loose change and we had a merry Malaysian convoy back home. The Proton won the race, on account of actually having enough torque to get up hills. However, on the downside, the nearside front brake started binding quite badly halfway home. I wondered what a World Champion would do in this situation, but thankfully did not consider smashing my car into my 'opponents' because I'm not a twat. #topical It's a very jolly thing to drive, though there's a big flat spot under two-thirds throttle. I suspect it wouldn't mind a service, though it did seem better for a bit of an Italian tune-up. I can see why folk lapped them up though. It's just not even slightly unpleasant to drive. Moar pics. The inside is mostly grey and filth. The original Blaupunkt stereo cassette player works, though not tested with tapes yet. Aeroback styling is ACE! A tailgate leak has also been fixed*. So, a very boring caper really, and now nothing is going to happen to it for some time, as the Bluebird is the priority. I can't really afford to insure it, so it may have to wait for a space to free up. It'll be interesting to see whether I prefer the Bluebird or the Proton, but I suspect the latter will edge it... trigger, Sigmund Fraud, The Moog and 50 others
eddyramrod
We loved the saloon we had years ago, and you may already have seen the one I commented on, on the ebay thread. I'm seriously thinking about that. These are just excellent little cars.Good move grabbing that, Ian

Jim Bell
Red Hot and Blue (front bumber)! I would take that out for a prawn cocktail and Asti Spumante lunch and then nibble its ear on the upper decks of a stark, bleak concrete multi story car park in inner city Bradford. 7/10. Needs more mismatched panels and MOT. GrumpyCat, nacho man, Brodders and 14 others

danthecapriman
Nice job bagging that, it's awful! In the best possible way!I've always liked these, I used to work on a giffer owned 1.5 Saloon in a gold/bronze colour. It never had any problems and just kept going and going with basic servicing. There's a Mitsubishi version still going round here too.

Steve79
Everyday is a school day! Thought the centre console looked different Looks like they went with the old 1984-1986 dash from the Lancer and then swapped to the newer style for 1991 onwards Pics of old style dash and then newer one
Spottedlaurel
I reckon the Bluebird will have a slightly more solid feel to it. Would make for an interesting comparison with my '88 Sunny though. When new I think it would have felt like quite a slick bit of kit.
egg
I have an oil filter you could have for freee, but online it says from 01/1991, not sure why it wouldn't fit yours though? Champion F110. oldcars

phil_lihp
That looks absolutely dreadful. Well done, 10/10. It's done well to survive this long given that it's hardly been loved, going by its current condition. Presumably it's been inherited from an elderly relative at some point in recent years given its mileage doubling in the last few years vs the previous 20, it must have had some care lavished on it at some point, hopefully it can keep going,

Vince70
Nice buy DW I bet that 80s Blaupunkt is worth a few bob on its own so selling that would give you basically free motoring Proton style and you've now won autoshite with a G plate one.
