On a more Datsun-related note, this is one of my favourite Tomica models:

Going by the grille, a slightly later version than yours?

(And I've been loving the thread, btw. Absolutely stunning adventure in the best grand tradition.)

Looks to be the next generation, a 230 Cedric. I am not a huge Datsun expert yet though.....

"Die spinnen, die Briten" is a recurring line in the German version of the "Asterix in Britain" comic by Uderzo that made it into common folklore.

Arguably, it was Goscinny who wrote the text. Here's the original version :

And, yes, this thread is evidence that he was right (in a good way !).

While drifting around Sutton Park the other night I happened across the rangers 110 Defender. They have owned this from new in 1995 and I had a brief chat with one the rangers. I have fond memories as a kid of seeing this thing working all round the park so it's great it's still going strong all these years later. 200 TDI for the tractory win!

I don't think it was Goscinny - Obelix never actually said "ils sont fous ces Anglais" in any of the Asterix books.  In the original version of Asterix in Britain, the English are referred to as "Bretons" rather than "Anglais".  He does say "ils sont fous ces Bretons" several times to be fair.

Nope Proton not nicked, though I have been driving it like I stole it. Negatory on the 800. Also this is my estate thread there is a more appropriate thread relating to the Proton, no point in senselessly clogging up this thread if we can help it. Then again half of it is a discussion of the relative merits of salting roads so it probably doesn't matter at this point lol.

Hi guys and gals just a heads up about what will be happening with my overdue write up of my Cedric trip. This weekend I should be able to start finishing it, I have decided to rewrite each days post starting from day one adding extra details and photo's where appropriate. Some days reports are pretty much spot on already but others are a bit sparse, then back story will be dealt with separately afterwards.

Friend of mine had a Cedric estate, we used to call it:' the Jig' as it got used so frequently to pull bent cars back into shape. It was a right tough old bugger and great fun. I had a 260 C (it may have been a 280...) back in the late 70s and I loved it. Loads of toys but it wasn't as good (sorry) as the Toyota Crown that preceeded it and the other that replaced it.

I really loved Japanese cars back then and wouldn't have a British heap at any price!
