Thornes Park Wakefield Classic Vehicle Show 7th July

Austin of England

OK I understand wanting to save on the postage but I always feel it isn't that well advertised, though there is still always a big turnout, and as I didn't get anything in the mail I honestly thought it wasn't on this year.

Anyway will still be there and helping if I can and I really appreciate the effort that goes into it all.

Same here, good night. Lots of people and cars . Time flew by and before I knew it time to go. Took the trusty anglia, saw the blue metro city, sat on original wheels and carnell dealer plates (that brought back memories) really enjoyed the show.

I went last night - it was a good show as usual. The Quintet was one of the stars of the show - don't think I've ever seen one at a show before. The write up in the windscreen was good, too. Owner sounds like a right nut job!

The Metro City was a lovely thing and the owner was a nice chap. He's new to the old car thing, but in the process of selling his Leyland Lynx at the moment!

My own wheels for the show was the solitary Austin Allegro on the field.

I bet Hirst was at this. Anyone clock him? (I mean see him, not crack him across the jaw)

I met Hirst there and walked round the show with him. It was larger than either of us remember, and I've been going for the past five or six years:

Remember Hirst? He was gr9.

Just a quick note to thank everyone for coming along, it was one of the largest in recent years, its great to see such a diversity of vehicles from 1930s Austins to Metros, 50s American cars to 1980s Japanese saloons, old tractors to 8 wheeler HGVs, - I love it.

One of the highlights and surprises for me was when we were setting up in the morning, I turned up just before 7am and about 15 minutes later a bloke turns up in a light blue 1980s Mercury and parked at the other side of the field and left his car. He came back about lunchtime so I went over for a chat, turns out he travelled down from Glasgow, he had set of at approx. 10-30 the previous evening, after the show he was travelling down to attend the VBOA rally at Market Harborough and then on Sunday he was attending the rally of the giants at Knebworth before travelling home.

Its a long but on whole an enjoyable day for us organisers, I left about 10pm, but it is worth it to see such a huge quantity of vehicles and their proud owners.

You'd have loved me to come over and give you and official Autoshite secret handshake. No one was with the car when I saw it though so we both shit out :-)

Did Hirst go in the Quintet or was that him driving the 323?

I thought you followed him on Twitter? The silver 323 wasn't his, and I'm me.

Convoys of crap Japanese wedges are fun. Plenty of people looked at the Quintet, everyone I spoke to thought the Piazza was a Scirocco with a body kit. Philistines, I cleaned it and everything.
