This was fantastic. Yes I know I'm biased but it really is. As you can see from the last picture it is still in regular use. It is absolutely mint. Apparently it's a Freeway Plus though I'm not sure what you get with the Plus as hard to imagine anything much more basic. Sorry the last one is sideways, it's not on my device.

The owner of this Favorit thought it might make a fun cheap track day car. It turned into an obsession as these things often do. The full build thread is on Briskoda but it has 138bhp from a much modified original 1.3 engine and now weighs a mere 685kg giving a power to weight ratio of....not sure but it must be around 200bhp per ton, you can work it out, but it's enough to surprise a few people.

Thanks for posting the photos. It was a good turnout - I was there from midday until 1pm and enjoyed it, having previously owned a 105s, 120LSE and a couple of Rapids including a 135RiC.  The Midland Austin 7 Club and Sunbeam Motorcycle Club were advertised for the same venue and date as has been the case for a few years.  Last year there were at least 20 A7s but only 1 Sunbeam Motorcycle.  This year, apart from an Austin 7 (Ruby), an A7 Chummy(?)  and a Singer parked with them, that was it.  The bemused Ruby owner did not know why the turnout was so poor.  No Sunbeams at all (whilst I was there).  I would have stayed longer but ran out of walking range - my arthritic hips were playing up.

Average Felicia owners, I hope I still have mine at their age! This is a Felicia L&K, the poshest Felly ever made and one of only about half a dozen left (there was another at the show, so about 33% of the survivors). It has heated leather seats and door trims and fake wood, fancy sill kick plates, leccy windows and other thing that were already standard on other cars but not on Skodas of the time.

Unfortunately as you can see some arsehole van driver on his phone drove into the back of them and pushed them into the car in front. Thankfully they are getting it repaired. The car was in great nick apart from the dents.

Another Fabulous Felicia. This is a much more down to earth basic 1.3. still owned by a retired couple, owned from new, always garaged and totally original. The owner showed me what he thought were a couple of small marks in the bodywork but they were tiny. I actually liked this more than the L&K. You just don't see them like this anymore. Great colour too.

Yes I saw them parked over there looking lonely. No more turned up which is a shame for them. There must be more Austin 7s about than old Skodas.

What's this lurking in the background?

post-20743-0-70043700-1496096888_thumb.jpg

An interloper! Obviously a lynch mob quickly formed and we had him killed and fed to the ducks.

I loved this. I was talking to the chap and not only did he have this but he had a Samara saloon and had found another saloon which he was in the process of acquiring. There must be even fewer of these around than Favorits so it's good to know someone's looking out for them.

Yes. Yes it most definitely is. But I suppose it's a good example of all the tat you could buy for your car in the 80s so I'll let it go.

This, quite rightly, was voted car of the show.

And lastly, for tonight at least as the pictures seem to be taking ages to upload, I couldn't resist sneaking this picture of the nice couple with the L&K. This was towards the end of the day when people were starting to leave. Just out of shot to the left was a fancy stone bridge at the end of the pond and all the VRS boys decided it was rather photogenic. They were queuing up to park their cars on it for photos. You can see a couple in the picture but there were at least ten of them all sitting there with their, mainly diesel, engines running. I could smell the diesel sat in my car and yet there was this old couple sitting there oblivious to it all eating their picnic. This was going on for at least 15 minutes. I just found it amusing, two very different sides of Skoda ownership side by side.

Great stuff. So few Favorits! They are fabulous looking things.

Bev's Toy got traillered then? Must admit, I'm looking forward to the day that it ISN'T at the NEC in November...

I think Favorits are a bit in limbo at the moment. The rear engined cars are now firmly in classic territory and almost all are owned by enthusiasts, hence there were so many more in attendance yesterday.

A lot of Favs, I think, are still owned by their original elderly owners as everyday transport. I reckon in time more of these will pass to enthusiasts and we'll see more at shows. There were eight there Sunday which is still more than I've ever seen in one place. Also most of the owners I spoke to had more than one so that bodes well. They are addictive!

If that freeway was on here it would soon be on the 'much worshipped' list!

I quite like the modified Fav called Franz, what's it like in the flesh? I provided the clear side repeaters.

I've been reading about an electric Fav conversion, next time on my laptop, I'll find the link.

DW, is there a mag about DIY electric cars, probably too niche, but I'd love it!

Thanks for the pics Yoss.

I think there might be an online EV mag. Definitely a reader market for EVs, but not so much advertising potential at the moment.

Glad you liked them. The Freeway was fantastic, I can't do it justice here. The fact it's still in everyday use and looks like it does defies belief. Most vans six months old don't look this good. The owner said it helps that as a locksmith it doesn't have to carry anything heavy but I think he's being overly modest. It looked brand new.

As for the electric Favorit that's in a whole different league. He has a thread on Briskoda. I'm not good at doing links but it's in the Classic Projects section under the title 'Coming soon the greatest Favorit project ever' or just Google briskoda electric Favorit. You'll need to set an hour or so aside to read it all and you'll be more and more amazed with each post whilst at the same time not understanding a word, unless you're an electrical engineer.

If it was mine I'd want it painted properly because I like shiny but I like the homemade looking wheel arches as they link the bumpers to the body kit. There's Vauxhall Chevette Rostyles under the wheeltrims, which are quite smart in themselves, not seen them before. Then they're spaced out and it's lowered, as you can see.

Very friendly owner (forgotten her name, I'm terrible with names) and she was very enthusiastic about the car so I think it has a secure future, it's not just a case of a cheap car to do a rat look on then move on to something else. She was after a set of clear rear lenses to go with the side repeaters. Proper clear, not the smoked ones you get on later cars. Apparently they do exist.

Where did you get the clear repeaters?

That will be Corrie who owns 'Franz', yeah, and I agree she seems very keen on it, but I believe she does have some problems with water ingress! (Don't we all...)

Clear repeaters came from our favourite Favorit supplier from Czechia, I probably have a pair I can spare if you'd like (or add them to your next order!).

I bought a 105 Estelle back in 1995 for £60. Tidied it up and sold for £400. I really wish I'd kept it. It was very underpowered but I loved the feel of driving it especially the lack of weight over the front wheels and the way the engine at the back used to 'help' you round the corners. Felt very solid too.

Looked like this one, same colour.

That's it, Corrie. We were introduced but I forgot. I was being overwhelmed by lots of other information at the time and only so much goes in.

I've just been browsing Skoda Dily and can't find them. But I'll tell you what I did find. The complete hydraulic headlamp adjustment system. For £2.10! I could have the only working system in the world. Although now I think of it it'd be LHD so I don't know if it would fit. Ah well.

  • 1 year later...

A few more from Skodafest 18. Not worth starting a new thread for but I'll try and concentrate on cars that I didn't feature last year.

This Estelle was full to the roof with spares. The bonnet/boot was full too.

That gazebo that he's setting up next to the car was full by the time he'd unloaded it all. Lots of good Favorit stuff too. And every time I asked how much something was, he'd say a fiver. The only thing that was more was a brand new steering rack complete with track rod ends and mounting rubbers for twenty quid. Needless to say I came home with a full car.

Hello, here comes trouble. These ain't no Škoda. I think they are effectively the same thing underneath. I'm sure the Polonez was just a reskinned 125p, it was certainly still RWD.

The calender shot.

This was in lovely condition but throw the bloody Halfords wheels away. Fortunately the tack is easily reversible.
