Your daily shite?

Suppose this is my way of saying hello and introducing myself to the group, been lurking in the background loving the daily shite chat on here for a while now and been wondering what everyone's driving daily? For me it's a 1996 volvo 850 2.5tdi manual saloon with well over 200k miles on it, bought it for £600 to run into the ground and then weigh in but somewhere down the line is fell in love with the old tank and ended up spending £500 to get it through its MOT back in January, why? Because I loves it! So anyway, what ya got?

Welcome! Dads got a 96 850 in AWD flava. He's had it since 97 and still thinking of it a new car. Fuck knows the mileage due to usual weak ass Volvo speedo gear, must do that diagnostic trick to see what the cluster brain reckons.

An 88 740 2.3 GLE auto, it's only got 92k miles on and I was given it for free early this year after its elderly owner passed away! Ive done a fair bit of work on it since to get it on the road again but it's a great car.

Let's see some pics of your 850!

I remember me and my mate taking his dad's 850 out on a regular basis in the late 80's. I think it was the 2.5 engine and a manual but i remember it used to go very well and we felt proper grown up driving it even though we were a couple of 19 year olds.

Welcome by the way. You should post more often!

Kind of a default-daily because I prefer to leave this for MrsR if I can, and go to work in something else.

Which would be Hyacinth

...except so little has happened to change her off-road status in the last 13 months that she's been appearing only in the Grump thread.

Then there's Huggy

Recruited for daily-use two or three times every week.  I know, there's no sense whatsoever in using a 7.7 litre Cadillac for a four-mile commute except for the glaring fact that every inch I drive in it is good for my mental health.  Given that I have well-documented and indeed currently-ongoing issues with same, that's an important consideration.  So I went to work in the Cadillac today and will again tomorrow.  I take up so much of our tiny little car park that my boss finds difficulty parking his Audi A4.  Oh dear, 'ow sad, never mind, as someone once said. ;)

Eddy's early lead here with Huggy pretty much guarantees Win of Thread, however here is my workhorse at work or rather near my work.   I was only allowed to park here on a special occasion, usually its by the sewage plant.... Been my daily for 13 years with only slightly less than catastrophic corrosion to show for its salt-water parking proximity.

Jag XJ8. Got a different plate and considerably more rust now though. Had it for over 2 years, which is good going for me. I've resisted buying something stupid, probably as I really regretted selling the one that Barefoot now has to buy a Xantia Activa which I hated. I dont want to make the same mistake again

I did have plans to take something else to Shitefest but they have gone a bit wrong so it looks like I will be in this.

Option 1

The 2CV, seen here when I was on community minibus duty. Has clocked up 2600 miles since January. Owned since 2000.

Option 2

The Honda S-MX, seen here at Japfest, with Ratdat cleaning bugs off it. Has clocked up 4200 (not 2200) miles since January. Owned since September (technically classed as a long-termer)

Option 3

The Perodua Nippa, seen here being SMOL. Actually my wife's daily. I just borrow it occasionally for a quick thrash.

Option 4 (various)

Currently a Nissan Bluebird. The previous Option 4 is parked behind it. Neither of them have proved ideal, in that neither has really made it off the driveway after landing on it...

Welcome.

On the one hand, this was bought last autumn for daily duties and has fulfilled them admirably, just having completed a business trip to Devon spread over five days. And I was again reminded of what a big slab of comfyness it is just taking that pic - I had to retreat 3 times and still failed to fit it in. There is however now no corner of the car that does not squeak, leak, rattle, knock or just fail to operate in some small way. And it is rusty, bent and dented in the same way that Jim Morrison had legendary BO. Accordingly its next MOT will not come easily so it has just been SORNed pending paid-for specialist repairs/diy bodging/parting out/weighing in.

Hey mercrocker, you're not far from me. If you ever see one of these two trundling around give us a wave.

Hello fellow Volvo botherer!

I'm running around in a 765 TIC at the mo, I've got a Ph1 V70 laid up with a fellow shiter, and I broke a £100 850 T5 a while back. I shall have more. Preferably of the T5 variety.

You're more than welcome to visit the SVM for dinner: last Wed of the month somewhere in central Scotland.

2000 Mondeo or 1994 Rangie most days - much to the disgust of my ex and the disdain of the white lease car School run mums with botched number plate spacings and bad plastic surgery.  I don't think anyone who rolls up at breakfast and after school club can beat my inverse-snobbery shite.

No doubt this will all scar my daughter for life.

Mine are

2005 Bianchi 1885 limited edition Liquigas bicycle bought cheap just over 3 years ago.

2005 Citroen C4 VTS bought about 5 years ago as a stop gap, but loved so much that when someone plowed into it in a car park and wrote it off last year (at 180000 miles), I had it fixed. Still going and on 193000 miles now.

1995 Citroen XM V6 12v Exclusive, bought just over 2 years ago after watching Ronin while pissed. Half heartedly trying to sell it at the moment as now retired and don't really need 2 cars and the C4 VTS wins!

I've probably said it before, but that Favorit is BLOODY ACE.

Thanks. The Pierburg carb (technically it's a Jikov, has 'made in Czechoslovakia' stamped on the side but it's a Pierburg in all but name) does its best to prevent it being a daily driver but so far it has got me to work and back every day since February. I tried rebuilding a spare carb but I think I need to spend more time setting it up as every time I get in the idle speed is somewhere else. I put the old one back on this afternoon as I intend going to the Å koda national rally in Leicestershire on Sunday. I can swap carbs in about half hour now.
