jonathan_dyane
I got a cheap recharge on my air con when I bought tyres which has lasted exactly one month. My conclusions? 1) I don't want to live without air con ever again and 2) My condenser seems to leak. I have ordered a new condenser which I guess before fitting the remaining refridgerant will want vacuuming out then after the job replenish and leak check. Does anyone know anyone trustworthy around Liverpool/St Helens who will deal with it? I imagine I might as well get them to fit the condenser too to safe fucking about (access looks easy). Any thoughts as ever appreciated, it's for the Primera of course.
Guest
I've had a week of heartache with the Vito's aircon- pipe rubbed through on a power steering pipe whilst queueing for Diesel, and gave me a right fright, after all the shennanigans of fitting a new condenser a while back , so had to get a fairly local hydraulic pipe guy to put new ends on the pipes, the condenser and replace the rubber part that rubbed through- total cost £60.. better than nearly £500 that Merc wanted. Mate at Kwik Fit let me borrow the machine and its now Icy cold. I'd expect a condenser leak to last a bit less than a month- maybe best to get some dye in it, gas it with nitrogen and see exactly where the leak is before throwing new parts on- I'e been up the garden path a few times with aircon and it gets expensive. I've also had good results in the past with the DIY stuff- leak stop and gas, worked on my Fiero,Alfa GTV Volvo and my current 75, all these had totally non functional aircon until filled, then stayed cold for the rest of their stay with me. The aircon guys hate the stuff though. jonathan_dyane
Wack
I used this guy last year http://www.cool-wheels.co.uk His website shows him topping up Ferraris but the premises he works out of are not so presitige he spent a good hour trying to find out why the gas has leaked out but couldn't find a leak so filled it up , it was ok all summer until I sold it , he charged me £50 and wrote on the invoice if it needed a condenser he'd knock the £50 off the bill, can't say fairer than that Don't know if that counts as a recommendation but I'd use him again jonathan_dyane

J-T
I'd second that, I've used him about 3 times. He even managed to get hold of an aircon rad for a Mk2 Golf GTI I had a few years back that had aircon fitted as a factory option & got the system working. He's a nice fella. jonathan_dyane

jonathan_dyane
Thanks for the recommendation; the guy is a gent. I explained to him the situation and he put it on his machine and had a look at the system. He explained that he could see the condenser was clearly borked so suggested that it wasn't worth putting the dye in and I'd be better just swapping the condenser and bringing it back for him to check and fill and saving the £25 he would have charged for the leak test. I tried to give him a few quid for his trouble and he wouldn't take it! Super chap. Wack, Barry Cade, Banger Kenny and 2 others
Wack
That's the impression I got from him, a genuine guy running a small business on customer service, offer them good service at a reasonable price and the word gets round jonathan_dyane
jonathan_dyane
I did take it back to him after I replaced the condensor and he checked and recharged the system; £50. He's now my go to guy. Wack
