You might remember "I" repaired the Rover's electronic ignition by waiting until a random passer by stopped and fixed it for me. Well, I saw the same chap passing by today so I pointed him in the direction of the Granada. 

 

Lightning.  Twice.

Okay, it seems to be working properly now. No need to change the carb. It started from (almost) completely cold on the second attempt just now. I'll know for sure tomorrow morning when it's had the night to properly cool off.

I don't know about twice... he also saw this gorgeous radio in my garage. I told him it didn't work and I couldn't figure out why.

He took it away, and a week later it was returned in complete working order.

a jet of wd40 on each belt in turn

 

when it suddenly goes quiet the belt you just lubed is the dead un.

 

for the sake of pissing on fireworks etc I tend to swap the lot on Rangie when one starts to chatter.

 

Invariably they are all showing signs of cracking wear

The belt squeal is on my list. 

 

Another couple of small but useless advancements today. The boot light now comes on manually, but not when the boot (or any of the doors) is opened. No electrons in the wire. 

 

And I have got the central locking to reliably unlock all the doors. Unfortunately it will not lock all the doors, so it's actually less convenient than when it was just broken.

Central locking never worked properly on each I bought, but just started working after a while when I properly used them.

 

 

And here is an announcement for all who bother to read this:

 

I have very big plans with the car.

Expect me going all the way with it.

 

The blue P6 is already spoken for.

The white P6 perhaps, so it might still be available for a mere bag and a half, hint, nudge, etc.

 

To my own surprise, this will free up a considerable stash of wad.

Selling off the Mercedes, Mobylette and assorted other rubbish should considerably add to the pile.

I am willing and prepared to throw the thick end of it at The Beast Estate!

 

Do paint!

There. I said it.

 

In the meantime, I'll have to look for alternative means of transport...

I'm well happy the cars going to get what it needs and by the sounds of things come out of it looking great again.

So, you sticking with the original colour of Mineral Blue or going for a change?

Maybe an opportunity to upgrade it slightly,a v6 wouldn't be too much hassle to pop in surely?

Have you seen the current edition of Classic Ford magazine?

There's a feature in there about a 2.8 Sport Granada estate being restored

Errrr...there is a V6 in it already.

I doubt Classic Ford Magazine contains anything I could be interested in.

 

 

Unless trendy hipsters in butchered 100E Pops and another fucking Escort is your thing.

 

Me neither.  But a concours restoration on a dark purple P reg Ka would tempt me, maybe.

It does need paint, otherwise it'll lift and rot underneath, it looks very pourous as it is, especially where the lacquer has failed. The paint on the Sierra BASE is much better if that helps people visualise what I saw...

 

Repaint it in the original colour and it'll look alot smarter and last another 50 years!

Toothbrush'd the filthy front wheels. Was satisfying.

Squealing appears to be coming from the air conditioning belt. 

 

Failed to remove the broken front driving lamps. One of them is holding the lower plastic grille in place. 

 

After I washed it, there was a substantial amount of water in the driver's footwell, so we have to figure out how that's getting in. 

 

In a minute I'm going to chuck my bike in the back and take it to a garage for exhaust, towbar removal and MOTing tomorrow.

 

I want it shiny and then, to Mr Conelrad's disgust, I want the coachstripes back on.

 

Repainting this car and then adding coach stripes would be like running 25½ miles of a marathon and then stopping to drink a cup of bleach.
