Oh Joy here we go! I am selling my Mercedes! I wasnt going to post it on here because I thought Hmm Its too expensive and isnt shite enough but what the heck..............................

Shoot me down............................

This is copied and pasted from other Mercedes forums for quickness.

Any of you out there know there who owns or has owned a Mercedes of this vintage knows theres three catagories...........

Hanging on to life and for sale in the hundreds

Mint museum garaged showpieces starting at £7k

And

Genuine honest ones

Think mine is an honest old thing?????????????

so here goes I will post more pics later when I get out with the Kodak ;)

Must sell need pennies for petrol for the Mustang!

The time has come to sell my beloved Mercedes affectionately known as "Bruno" after the great man himself clear.png

I always wanted a Mercedes it was one of my Bucket list cars.I really wanted a W123 but to be honest at the time I bought my first they were out of my price range clear.png

So I bought a 190d Ran that for a while but still had the W123 itch but they were still too out of my range so I had been advised to try a W124

I bought Bruno in 2015 and to be truthful he was a solid car but had all those W124 age related issues.

The two owners previous to myself one was an elderly gent who eventually gave up driving and in 2010 the car was sorn and didn't return to the road until 2015 so was stored and avoided 5 winters clear.png

The chap I bought him from wanted to be a champagne charlie on tap water money and had done nothing to it but I saw the cars honesty so bought it.

I had to clean lots of the electrical connectors,Fusebox and the air plate was filthy and as expected the Over Voltage Protection relay was intermittently working clear.png

Once all those issues were ironed out the car ran beautifully.

since then the car had been treated to the following in just the last year or so

All new mainly Mercedes genuine parts or quality alternatives

Battery,Alternator,Fuel Filter,Water Pump,All hoses,Plugs,Fan Belt,Metal Thermostat housing,Front bottom ball joints,4 new Energy saver Tyres,Transmission Fluid and Filter including Torque Convertor Drain,4 Engine Oil and filter changes in the last two years,Coolant Flush and the correct Mercedes Benz mix added,Power Steering fluid replaced,Near Rear Exhaust section,Rear brakes rebuilt including new Discs,Pads,And parking brakes all genuine Mercedes.
Both heated washer jets have been replaced and the washer system thoroughly cleaned and and the wiper mechanism serviced and a new blade fitted

Bodywork is presentable finished in Almandine Red but its not a show winner its a 28 year old car with some stone chips etc but very usable.

Clean tan cloth interior

Its a pre Facelift but the Bumpers and Rubbing Strips have been colour coded and the facelift wheel trims added. this was done early on in its life to update it to look like the facelift I imagine.

Keys, one new genuine Mercedes key plus the remains of the old one as the rubber grip had perished and the other original key had snapped in the boot lock (new boot lock now fitted)
Plus the original Emergency Key in its wallet

No original service book from 1989 I am afraid but it does come with two years of recent bills for all the important items does come with an owners manual.

MOT's going back to 90's verify low mileage of just over 74k

Last MOT only needed a bulb!

All 4 electric windows and sunroof work perfectly as does the vacuum system of the central locking

Known issues

The door strikers need adjustment as after 28 years use. Front doors shut well but you need to give them a firm shut,I did try to adjust these but couldn't quite get the hang of it clear.png

Radio antenna is partly seized I don't think its electric it extends enough though to pick up well enough

Boot Lock key different due to replacement lock

Drivers seat bolster just starting to wear could be saved at this point

Bonnet pad had to be removed from the underside of bonnet as it had mostly disintegrated so needs new pad if you are fussy? Its not bothered me.

An honest car for an honest price

£2250 or fair near offer

Car located in Wiltshire

Its important the car goes to a good home.

Just have one photo right now but will be taking more detailed ones later in the weather stays nice

Oh yes nearly forgot also comes with a private numberplate on a 1983 "A"

Thanks Jodie

Nothing wrong with cars being advertised for proper money on here.  But you'll need more than just one "golden hour" photo taken from 20 feet away if  you want to relieve someone of £2250.  Looks like it's mechanically well sorted, but not without its niggles.

You didn't ask my opinion on price, so I won't be rude and offer it.  But if you can get £2250 for a saloon with cloth, trims and no service history - you're hired to sell my next heap.

You won't find anyone who loves Mercs of this vintage more than me - it looks like it has masses of potential.  NB: You could get a new boot lock from Mercedes for £NotMuch so that you're back on the one key.  Stuff like that matters to bearded men who buy Mercedes (In my experience)

GLWS.

Onto it with the pics ;)

Yes your right about the golden hour pic just haven't taken any recent but will do today or tomorrow dependent on weather ;)

Service book is a bummer but the folder is bursting with service history just more recent stuff, yes its nice have the 1989 stuff but its more important what was done recently ;)

I expect I wont get what im asking but you have to ask a little more to get your bottom line don't you ;)

may be a saloon with cloth but most are either tired or Benzworld exhibits this in in the rare mid ground :)

Pics will be up by tomorrow night at the latest and I am open to decent offers so long as its not from a Retro Rider with an Angle Grinder!

GLWTS....Not looking myself but if I was on one of my periodic searches for an old Merc of the correct era then this would be on my radar for sure.   Unfortunately I only buy them about 2.5 times per decade so not currently looking!

Nothing I see in your post would take it off my list.

Don't think it's that out of the way for around the £2,000 mark, you could get one for a grand but it wouldn't be as low miles or in the condition this one looks in, it'd cost as much again to get it looking as clean as that.

It'll look cheap when people jump on the bandwagon and EBay prices start heading for the stratosphere.

People keep selling cars ATM! Promptly and efficiently!

I'm now going to list a car for proper money, feeling encouraged by this.

Well done J!
