Alusilber Posted May 12, 2017 Share Posted May 12, 2017 Up on the block at Morris Leslie's next Saturday is this fine specimen which, as it happens, was owned (from new) by an old chap (who has recently joined the choir invisible) who lived near my mum. For the last umpteen years it has sat in his garage 364 days a year, only coming out to go off for its MoT. So I fully expect this one to be as minty as they come. Its in Ember Glow (red) and looks lovely, a nice change from all the beige ones! Will post some pics up soon. The two previous Acclaims I had were around 18 years ago. Banger raced them both. After a few years he sold it to my Dad. It replaced a V reg Allegro of much unreliability and was a sea change in terms of comfort and equipment. 4 x electric windows and headlight washers muthafuckas! I may attend this auction and I may bid for this fine machine, or the Fiasco Festival, the Renault 9, the Daihatsu Charade, the MR2, the Escort van or possibly even the NIssan Sunny.This auction company requires a £500 cash deposit if one registers to bid. Mrs SL had one for a few years as her daily, we took it to France a couple of times: 1983 Triumph Acclaim HL in Southern France, 1996 by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr Eventually it suffered various issues, got scrapped and was banger raced (they were a popular choice in the 'unders' back then). trigger Posted May 13, 2017 Share Posted May 13, 2017 I enjoyed the one i had a few years back, nippy, easy to drive and very usable as a daily driver. Only really issues, which were to be expected was rusty arches and valance, the inner wheel arch inside the boot rots out too and on mine the head gasket went. I took mine 650 miles from Suffolk to Wales and back again in a weekend for Shitefest with 500 car magazines in the boot and didn't miss a beat. Just be prepared to have it slated all the time by the "It's not a real Triumph" brigade and to keep being told it's just a "Honda Civic M9". That seems a bit unusual to me.The deposits pretty standard in most places, certainly the more reputable ones, it's not always a bad thing as it does so eBay style wannabes bidding up shit then never turning up to collect. Ready for an MoT but we have no use for it so haven't bothered! 50,000 miles from new, 1 lady owner most of its life. We have had it 5 years or so, it was her first car. A bloke from Carlisle with a very nice white montego estate was there with his wife who has an Acclaim. He had a look at it and was very impressed. Lovely interior. Headlining unmarked. Good paintwork and chrome bits. Front spoiler/apron (?) largely unmarked "they usually all go there". Chrome round windscreen rubber good. Front bumper very minor scuff "can't really get them now". Boot lid rust free "unusual". He was impressed and would be interested but they are a one Acclaim household.....Potentially a good buy if the price is right. Bournemouth and Christchurch were very happy hunting grounds for Acclaims amongst the giffer population.
