Two wheeled collection, definitely shite

Last week my boss mentioned to me he had a couple of hondas in "rag order" he was going to scrap. He knew I would bite at that so the XM was fired up, trailer lashed on and brother collected.

One bike is all there but rotten, the other is just a frame and engine but very solid.

Also included were extra swingarms, forks and wheels and another tank.

To be honest most of it is bin fodder but the more I poke at it the more I feel there could be one bike in amongst all the bits.

One engine turns freely, the other is in bits and one set of forks isn't terrible.

The biggest decider will be how much of a ballache it will be to deal with DVLA as both bikes appear to have dropped off the database at some point. It was suggested I contact Honda UK for help quoting frame / engine numbers.....286a4e321d696829b5e3b2ed25397340.jpg8d009c8a3caec841522365250168fe99.jpg2bd2e525a2957e89e01a2fad217f7be9.jpg

My brother only looks so happy because he's not taking them on!

Top topness! Numbers 13 and 42 please, when you've built the bike and got it a ticket.

That should only take me around ten years and a divorce, the good lady is understandably "a bit miffed". Mostly because I've been arsing around with this and the XM instead of finishing the bathroom I started a long long time ago

I would just apply for all the logbooks, they might well be recorded somewhere at the DVLA, nothing to loose by trying anyway

This, definitely. If they aren't on the system you get your 25 quid back. I'd pretty much given up hope of getting the original reg no back on my 1959 Vespa (the docs had been lost, years ago), but this worked!

Quality find, BTW!

the reg in one of the pics would surely turn something up

gotta be worth a shot - although not being in coleraine anymore - you might get - sorry docs lost in post :D

Unfortunately the better frame has no plate, just a chassis number.

But I'll certainly try applying for a log book for the one with a plate

A trade HPI on the frame number will give the reg number if it hasn't dropped off the system. There is a member on here who can help.

If you can get a working 175 cc bike out of this heap of fuck all, and then want to sell it after riding it around for a bit, I will be on it like a vagabond on warm potato-based foodstuffs .  I will check back in here in about 2025.

Been balls deep in gloss paint today. I'll get some more pics of the delights* littering my garden tomorrow.

From what I can see I have a CD175 which is complete but completely rusty, and a CB200 which is far from complete yet has a solid frame.

But to keep you lot happy here's some registration plate porn

By popular* demand, have some more pics.

The CD175 is remarkably complete. Engine seems to turn over but obviously would need stripped and inspected.

Both tanks a bit buggered but have old fuel in and aren't leaking.......I've had success in the past with the POR-15 kit that lines the inside of a gubbed tank. You can then flat back the rust on the outside and clear lacquer it, retaining a bit of patina.

The CD175 tank is probably my favourite bit tbh

IIRC the CB200 was developed from the CD175 so there's a good chance the 175 engine will slot straight into the 200 frame.

EDIT: nope, it was developed from the CB175 and there are some differences, e.g. the CD has 6-volt electrics and a single carb. But the engine might still fit.

Some further investigation was done today in between bouts of extreme DIY.....

The CD175 has a registration number. However I can't find a VIN on the frame. It's supposed to be on the headstock but unfortunately it's been repainted badly a couple of times and the surface is so pitted / bumpy with rust there's no trace of a number.

I'll attempt to ask for a V5 based on the registration number but if that fails without a VIN it's probably game over for that frame.

The CB200 however does have a VIN and this frame is far better. It was stored indoors for starters. To get it registered I'll have to loosely assemble all the CB bits I have and make it look like a bike, submit photos to the VJMC (vintage Japanese motorcycle club) who will hopefully supply me with an age related certificate based on the VIN / amount of original bits.

This then goes into the DVLA system, and hopefully an age related registration will pop out the other end. Even more hopefully it's a pre 77 for OMG free tax.

Ultimately I don't have much time for doing too much with it so in the short term I'll get rid of the completely crap bits, sort out the paperwork and gradually clean up what I'm keeping

This as kicked me up the arse to go and drag the cd125 out from under the tarpaulin at my friends house and start building it with the cb125 engine he has spare. My friend is sadly losing the ability to carry on with all his projects due to right hand losing all grip. Least would keep me busy! Hope it goes well with the documents process. Luckily he hasn't got to do that for his cd. If any bits are needed I can ask my buddy to see what he has got lying around.
