HMC
Just noticed this in the listings. Jag Design supremo Ian Callum looks at the influences that have taken the family car from Morris Minor to MPV in 70 years. Could be worth a look as their sights are heavily set (so it says) at Ford Cortinas and the like. Will be interesting to see how Callum shapes up to camera/ as a presenter. Timewaster
BBC4 don't usually do Dumbed down programs. Hopefully this won't be the usual "Weren't Allegros Shit" and "My uncle had a Cortina" rubbish. EssDeeWon
Thanks HMC I was just wondering what to watch on TV, so I will give this a watch.
HMC
I'm hoping its listing on BBC4 will mean it's more of a documentary than "entertainment" and hopefully they've dug out period film etc, we will see soon enough.....
HMC
Ian Callum must just be a 'talking head'- not the main presenter.

The Reverend Bluejeans
Great programme, if only to show how fist eatingly cringeworthy the Mini 'scene' is now. They really are freaks. Some superb period footage though - very well thought out and produced. Norbert and EssDeeWon
NorfolkNWeigh
Would have been better with the sound turned off.Lots of nice old footage spoilt by inane poorly researched bollocks and lazy stereotyping. My favourite bit was the comedy slagging of the Allegro for not been a Maxi, ie typical BL guck up not having a hatch, then showing those famous Continental hatchbacks taking its market. You know those hatchback Renault 12 and Fiat 128s. Another funny bit was crediting the 1948 Morris Minor with bringing motoring to the common man , I bet all those Millionaires that bought Austin 7s, Ford Model Ys and , oh yes Morris Minors in the 20's and 30's were well jealous.Who the fuck is Zog Ziegler, I've read every car magazine printed, pretty much , since 1975 and a hell of a lot from before that and I've never heard of him. And, breathe.... coalnotdole, Bianconeri, cros and 6 others

Squire_Dawson
When I see programmes like this in the listings, experience has taught me to scorn them and wonder how long it takes before the usual 'ha ha Leyland' jibes come out. But from the 5 minutes I saw it looked alright so I'll watch the recording.

The Reverend Bluejeans
The following documentary about the Queen Mary was better. Re; the Allegro.....BL failed to innovate by managing to make a car that was actually worse than its predecessor as well as building it incredibly badly for the first couple of years. That hatchback thing doesn't really wash because the Alfasud wasn't a hatch until 1981 yet was in massive demand, and neither were Escorts 1 and 2. Yes, funny you say that, I'd been considering another (proper) Mini and a couple of years ago started checking out what was around and agree with you - it's all very 'Scene' now, not as bad as VW but probably will get there. bub2006
Just watched this program. Made me smile when they were talking of the European invasion with the old footage of cars driving off the ferry. There was a white Renault 4 coming up a ramp with a brake light out. Because French? AMC Rebel, Jifflemon, Banger Kenny and 1 other

Put me right off I'm afraid. You should see them at car shows. Fucking hell. Half of them are certified nut jobs. Self preservation society, rust, soft toys tie wrapped to the grille, more rust, only supposed to blow the bloody doors off. Oh fuck off. A nice late sixties Mark II Mini 1000 on Hydro or an early Mark III would be alright but anything decent* is so pricey now. Just don't join a Mini club. AlabamaShrimp
Can't that be said for a lot of car clubs though? Tbh it's the only car I've ever driven were I got flashed at when another Mini drove past. This was about 20 years ago, but he they were still making them which seemed a bit weird. doobietoo
You cannot let the compulsory weeks cliché training undertaken by every BBC employee on joining the corporation go to waste now can you?
