Renault Twingo Mk 1

Somewhat surprised by the lack of interest in this

I paid £250 for it, and spent probably over £400 in parts, plus a lot of time repairing it. :

I don't think it's overpriced, but obviously I'll think about offers - I'm more surprised I've had no offers or questions.

It's not overpriced compared to others advertised on the UK market.

The point is do they actually sell for the advertised price? I suspect not!

It owes you £650 so why not ask something like £800 for it - more realistic, still leaves you a small profit, and also roffleable.

£1250 is perfectly realistic for a rust-free Twingo! Profit won't account for the hours spent on it, either; it owes me two years of storage, stress, and so forth ;)

Having said that, no-one's even made an offer!

I think Autoshite may not be the place to sell it, despite the enthusiasm for it :)

Panoramic glass sunroof, sliding front section - needs guides fitting (included) for perfection.

Steering wheel on the wrong side. Glovebox handle broken - may still be available from Renault and shared with Kangoo, but keep getting distracted when trying to nail it down. Parts there - the trim/paddle part has a broken clip so it falls off, easier to open by just pushing the lever inside.

Rear seats (good condition, slide and fold well)

Sills, various. This car really has no rust to speak of - some surface on ARB brackets.

Heater controls and radio/cassette (new mech).

The engine. New head gasket, water pump, cam belt, radiator, coolant, filters, plugs etc. last year, probably <1000 miles ago.

The bit of paint (topcoat) loss on the door, the main but that lets the car down IMO.

Any interest in an 02 Octavia?

Fsh, 80k miles, not very exciting and 1.4 petrol.

Happy to post pics if even the slightest bit of interest...

Sorry, not this time (not generally, to be fair, but right now definitely not) - I'm having to clear out to move to somewhere without a workshop, even the SLK has to go eventually :(

I hear you man, totally get it.

Such a lovely car & I always fancied one. A pal here had one but I was lazy when he was getting rid of it & lost out. Them's the breaks I guess! I'll keep an eye on the thread & hope I find a bit of cashola.

As expected, costs of moving are hitting, etc. so the bounced payments I'd hoped to avoid have happend, and the only interest I've had is derogatory.

So for the time being the car is off the market. Will possibly MoT it ahead of expiry and find storage.

£1K for a rust-free, clean Twingo with genuine RHD lights, a glass roof and pretty much fully serviced is a bargain - but clearly, I need to find a different outlet!

Looking at the examples on eBay this is in a different class; wish I had time to bring it to Fot2E.

Hi

I thought I should drop in and say hello as the current owner of Richards twingo.

I bought it back in Nov 2019 from the previous owner in Essex and it now lives down in Devon on the English Riviera.  It is my fourth twingo.  I had three from 2011 to 2015 but had to sell the last one when my daughter arrived and the twingo wasn't the best car for wife, child, shopping and push chair.  I have been a fan of the mk1 since the 90s when I first saw them driving coaches around Europe and at that time could only dream of owning one.

I have a massive collection of "small" twingos and also twingo objects and memorablia.  I bought a copy of Practical Classic magazine when the twingo appeared, not realising that I would soon own it!

Once I bought the car I saw some details of it when you had it for same via a Facebook group and have only recently been made aware of this thread by a fellow mk1 owner.  What a labour of love (and perhaps a little loathing) this car has been through.  Thank you for everything you have done to ensure the twingo lives for a good few years to come.

I am not sure if the owner after you repaired the paint on the door but during the drive from Essex to Devon, it all came off!  Like you said, it spoils the look but its not essential to get it resprayed just now.

Thank you for your hard word on the radio cassette.  The battery had been changed so it wasn't working when I got it.  A message on a French twingo Facebook group and I had the code, its perfect again.

The interior light is still held on with your blutac.  I didnt realise it was there until I tried to investigate why the light wasn't actually working.  It worked ok if I manually rocked it on the switch but would not come on when either door was opened.  About three weeks after I owned the twingo, the interior light just decided to start working and has been fine ever since!

My wife discovered the glove box handle was broken and was a little gutted as she thought it was her fault.  Knowing how much I love my twingos, I was calm just told her it was fine and I would fix it.  A chap called "Pieces Twingo" on Facebook was able to send me a new glove box cover with a red handle for 10euro.

The dipped/main beam flash stopped working so I had no full beam.  I bought a replacement "comodo" for about £20 but it wasn't quite the right fit so Pieces Twingo had one for 25euro.

The boot button decided to stop popping out and I wanted a red cigarette lighter to complete the dash look so 8euro and 3euro respectively sorted that out with Pieces Twingo.

MOT due at the end of the month but even with an extention offered until Dec 2020, I decided to get it done yesterday.  A pass with a couple of advisories on the front tyres.

Thank you, the twingo is great.  (I love the yellow tinted headlights too)

Ian

Fabulous little car.

It was always a treat when on holiday abroad to see these. I seem to recall seeing loads in Menorca a few years back.

Fantastic bit of design IMO. This was always the route I thought the new Mini should have gone down.

So happy to see this!

Does it still have the mixtapes I made for it, named after French sweets? Malabar and Tagada I think - don't know if I'd made Batna. The one with Katy Perry and Beck on was my favourite.

Hey Richard

Sadly no mixtapes.....  I used to make loads back in the day.  Current cassette of choice is "Telephone - Un Autre Monde", an 80s French rock classic.
