Wheeler dealers.

Does anyone remember the (old) wheeler dealers, where they did a white peugeot 205 gti? It showed a clip of the 205 on the way back to Ed's workshop & there was heavy duty smoke coming out of the back of it....They never mentioned that though...lol.

It is too american audience based now however, & as i have no interest whatsoever in american cars, i don't really watch it anymore. I do like Ed however, he knows his stuff.

Didn't he blame the gear linkages for that? Lol

Those early ones were great. Mike's rattle can trick on the non-GTi parcel shelf, too.

I wish all episodes of Deals on Wheels were on YouTube, personally.

I have an amazing* knack at remembering complete rubbish!

lol....well, you will also remember the Toyota MR2 they also did, mikey boy "found" a minted, freshly painted red wing in a big pile of the fucking things in a scrapyard...The paint was still drying on the wing when he "found" it.

Sorry to turn this into a remember this thread....but some of the things mike has done is priceless, like the genuine (& expensive) escort cosworth wheels fitted to the sierra RS Cosworth they did, he did a part ex plus cash deal for the standard dog leg cosworth alloys,

or the best one ever, was, the chocolate brown porsche 928 they did, it had very rare & expensive BBS split rim alloys on it when they got it, but mike being a "wheeler dealer" bought a standard set of teledial alloys for it instead & also included the rare, BBS split rims as part of the deal with the seller.

Facepalm moments for me.....lol

Lol, yes, the 205 with RAF display smoke....remember it well, gear linkages wtf?

Some other facepalm moments for me were the LS400 where they spunked about £500 on unnecessary shit like HID lights and hands free kits, and the 'vette where Ed put an 'engine dress up kit' on it, which consisted of about 3 cheap chrome stick-on trinkets in an engine bay that otherwise looked like it had just been raised from the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean.

Edd commented on his YouTube channel:

Although I will miss him, I will continue to watch the programme, since I actually quite like Mike Brewer. There, I said it.

I think he is overreacting a bit, but he has every right to do so. On the other hand, I, too, meanwhile have huge issues working

in environments controlled by septics.

I bet he will not entirely vanish from the screen and come up with something new soon. I could actually see him on Top Gear.

Yeah, I member the mirrors and wing. Looked like they had been wet sanded and machine polished! Too true on the cringe factor, at times.

I want Mike to show me how powder coating and chrome plating works. He never* has.

Having seen Mike, Ed and Ant at NEC car shows a few times I can say that Mike and Ed will happily walk onto any stand and have a chat with enthusiasts. Ant, on the other hand, can only be found in the carpeted area of the show where the posh marques are, following in Quentin Willson's footsteps...

Don't like him.

I take my hat off to Edd. He seems a really genuine chap, and from what I can tell from that clip wishes to keep his integrity.

Best of luck to him on his new projects. Whatever he does, I'm sure it will be good.

Thing is, very few people are actually interested in cars. Most people buy them on colour, cost per month, cup holders, ncap stars and MPG. No one buys on tech spec now and for that reason niche programmes like WD will be seen as to anoraky and beardy by the general public. Like the man said, discovery just want to make money and with the old format, that was unlikely.

I want to buy one of Mike's cars. I will reply to an ad on a specialist website, which presumably contains zero info on the car, then I will test drive it, again, asking nothing about the car, return and reverse park it against a unit door at a jaunty angle, remark to Mike at how well it "gets down the road" and then crouch down and caress the bodywork, perhaps peer inside via the open windows and await Mike to return from talking to the camera in private.

It is at this stage where I will point out the things that stand out to me and ask if they are original or not. "This flasher unit (that cannot be seen) looks new, Mike, is it? This headrest guide has a stiffer button, is it original?"

"I'm glad you arsked, because..."

The bottom line is, Edd isn't a qualified mechanic, his qualifications are in fabrication, he never did any of the oily bits if you actually watch properly, it was all done by 'Silent Paul' and his replacement. Look how tight the shots are, you just see hands in orange gloves. Ant does have the appearance of being a bit of a bell end with an ego, I noticed that with FTLOC. I do love it when the show made almighty cock ups, like the AMC Pacer, and the Bronco that was almost entirely made from rust, and stuffing that engineless Miserati into the wall from careless jacking, and the electric conversion that will have been 10 times more expensive to restore than if they put an engine in it. Me and an old mate used to do DVLA checks on the motors, and the Landy 90 they did showed up as still blue, and a diesel, when it was grey and V8 powered, plus the VW van that Edd gas axed the springs on (naughty), stupid graphics on, ended up as Edd's (allegedly), then not long after, caught fire.

I'm just watching an episode at the mo with an RX7 and why the hell would anyone think that having your wheels and spoilers wrapped/painted in a snakeskin pattern and ripping out the factory air con on a rare motor is going to add money to any car..

I assume he is pandering to the typical rx7 buyer who has watched every fast and furious film.

Binning tha A/C and sensible mods won't detract from its desirability imo, but that snakeskin and orange shit was a joke.
