How I Stopped Worrying and Learned to Love the Xantia. - I just needed to hit it harder.

I genuinely think that only a conveniently located and sensibly priced LS400 is an adequate alternative to the Xantia.

At this point, yes. The Civic felt gutless because no mid-range torque. It got a move on above 4,000rpm but I got out-dragged off a roundabout by a diesel Ford C-Max while driving it. :(

Sounds like you're driving the Civic like a diesel. Its a Honda, so you gotta use the revs.

Aye, I was revving the tits off it and it was alright admittedly, but it's only a 120hp 1.6. It did make a nice induction noise though.

The lack of performance could be attributed to its utterly fucked left rear brake too. Who knows? I'm a fickle being. I like change, and I keep thinking I want rid of the Xantia, then I drive it and think "hmmm, this is nice."

FIXED.

Thank you Tayne for holding the socket and extension bar, allowing me to get a good swing with the mallet. Once it stopped bouncing, it only took a couple of good sharp hits to get the core plug in.

Foamy. I put a dishwasher tablet in because the old coolant that came out was MANKY. Also, the air burping up through is causing extra foam! Expansion tank is that one waaaay over to the left. The box next to it is the ECU. Yay Citroen!

SoupOrNowt has forgotten the most important detail!

We started with a socket the same size as the plug but it bounced off when hit. We needed the socket to fit inside the dish of the plug so resorted to... the next size down.

That's right, we fixed a problem by hammering a smaller socket!

I drained the water and dishwasher tablet earlier, and while it was draining I took a seat. Forgot how comfortable and spacious it is in the back...

The stuff that came out today was slightly lighter brown than the stuff that came out earlier in the week. I've got proper antifreeze in there now and will probably leave it. Meh!

All systems are A-OK, and the temperature is steady. It's also no longer making a weird mist from the top of the radiator like it was on the test drive the other day. I have cleaned up the engine bay with de-greaser since that test drive though, and I reckon the weird mist was the remnants of the old coolant that got sprayed everywhere burning off.
