Volvo D5 dpf delete now in limp mode

My piece of shit xc90 went into limp mode while towing my giant caravan to Wales. Three kids,dog,bag of nerves bird,bikes etc.... 20mph on a slight incline on motorway, wagons overtaking, blowing horns, drivers giving the v's etc... get the picture?? Anyway my mate with the latest snap on solus thing diagnosed 'soot filter blocked' and forced it to regenerate. Machine fucks with injectors and throws a load of fuel into dpf to burn it clean. Revs the balls off it for a good 40 mins and exhaust gas unbelievably hot.

Drive down the street and back into limp bastard mode! Back on machine - 'soot filter blocked'

Two lads who work there advise me to remove the dpf. Both have had success doing this. One a bmw 335 and the other a Honda accord. Dpf removed and sliced open. Guts removed. Welded back up and put back in so it looks good for mot man. Still in limp mode as expected so off for a remap (245 quid)

Drives ace. More power. Superb. Blast up motorway. Superb. Come off motorway...LIMP FUCKING MODE.

Back to remap man.....Lambda sensor fault and low turbo pressure. Turbo rebuilt 5k ago so not having that.

Lambda acquired from local breaker who assures me it's good (new one 150 quid)

No prizes for quessing what comes next....begins with an 'L' ends in 'imp fucking mode'

Don't know what to do next. Please no suggestions of matches and four star cos I'm seriously tempted.

Isnt there a minimum speed on da motorway ^^ sounds mighty dangerous mate, better off driving at 20mph on the HS until you can find a safe refuge.

 

Remove inlet pipe from turbo, can you feel any play in the turbo shaft? Mrs thestag C4 started fucking around like this about 200miles before it lunched the turbo.

 

And when you say turbo rebuilt, was the word ebay featured anywhere in that rebuild?

Yeah got off M way asap. A roads weren't fun either. Turbo was sent away and refurbished

It needs the ECU properly remapped, by someone who knows what they are doing/experienced reflashing the ECU, so it doesn't DPF regen, randomly out on the road.

Some models eg; Mazda 6 - DPF legend light on the dashboard, also serves as a 'check engine' light.

 

Some 'DPF Removal' guides - ie cutting out the actual DPF filer - on youtube and on forums etc, give out the wrong info; some cut out the DPF n cat, when they are housed together - naturally enough, its the just the blocked DPF particle filer that is to be removed; cat stays/should be undisturbed .....

Yours one of them Vane turbos ?

If your DPF was sooted up, good chance the vanes (which should be able to move around) are sticking.

 

Get someone with Vida or Dice to have a look at it, as Snap-on etc diagnostic machines can lead you down the wrong path (Trust me !)

 

I had a fault with mine which turned out to be a goosed front engine mount - Now gladly fixed !!

But a cheap diagnostic machine basically said 'AAH DEATH TO ALL'

 

Make sure you have good pressure & flow to the injection rail & all injectors are happy too.

A good tuner / re-map should have checked your car before throwing a new or cheap shit map download to your ECU.

As above on turbo.....

 

Also if it says low turbo pressure surely you can't just disagree because not that old. Stick a gauge on and measure it......and if it is ok maybe it is the sensor telling the ecu its low so it cuts the fuel and goes limp mode??

I forgot that, maybe the pressure sensor is borked.  I snapped the end off the one on the 607 once when I was changing the battery. There was boost but the ECU couldn't detect it (because I dropped a battery on the sensor) so it freaked out.

 

I also had a seized turbo on the Jag recently after blocked DPF problems.  The turbo wan't leaking oil, and didn't have loose bearings, and in fact it was only three years old, but it was stiff to spin. Conclusion; full of soot.

As above re:turbo.

 

Mine was reconned at a reputable specialist on my merc and didn't see out a year, goon at the end of the phone kept saying he could get me a new one for £800 plus vat (cheaper direct from merc!!!).

 

They claimed i hadn't followed the fitting guide correctly and oil contamination had caused premature failure, interesting when the brass bush where the oil flows into was as new but the cheap shit steel they used to make the impeller shaft was worn to nothing.

 

I pointed this out to their top boy and fair play he agreed and sent a brand spanker out the next day. Car has flown since and is far better on fuel and everything else really, you can hear it boosting strong at all times now, never did that on the recon.

 

Both failures were easily diagnosed by removing inlet pipe to turbo and rocking shaftup and down (OBVIOUSLY with the engine OFF) then observing with engine running.

 

More likely than not a crappy sensor on that, also the dpf needs to see a pressure/flow differential which I'm sure your tuner wrote out but you never know.

Yes dpf sensors wrote out. Egr also so I assume the forte method won't work now??
