My neighbour asked if I might know anybody who would want a Free Car? I might know a few people I said ;)

53 Plate s40 2.0 Manual in silver 112k  full black leather interior with electric seats 112k Volvo Serviced but there is one snag............................

It refuses to start :(

It had a parasitic draw issue he had to keep recharging the battery but then took it off the road for winter then when he tried to start it even with a fully charged battery it refused to start :(

Hes had it a few years but he also has use of a company van so its only been driven about 500 miles a year.

Mot expires 6th April

He has no use for it so just wants it gone but doesn't want it to be broken for spares.

I cant drive manual otherwise id have a punt at it myself.

Best bit is the price!

Free!!! Nadda!!  Nothing!!

If anybody want it ill hook you up with the owner :)

Car is Located in Swindon Wiltshire.

Will need a trailer I guess unless somebody has an idea whats wrong with it?

Please somebody save this car it was a good runner until it refused to start its heading the crusher otherwise which would be a shame :(

Thanks

Jo

Blimey.

Hope someone takes it on, and gives him a drink for it at least - it looks like it's been looked after.

Its a decent car but the draw seems to be what has caused the non start, all he has asked it it gets save and he wants the parking space for his van  wants it gone by the end of the month or sooner rather than later.

What a shame, still in that condition someone on here is bound to take I would think. I would if it was closer.

This would be ideal for Andy CMS whos looking for a new more economical modern transport, could even transplant the T4 from his V40 into this. Nice car!!

That will undoubtedly just be an immobiliser issue caused by the lack of power.

Is the battery that is "fully charged" the original battery that has been connected while suffering the parasitic drain? If so, running a lead acid battery flat royally fucks them up and kills them.

Any ideas if its turning over at normal speed and not catching, or is the battery fubared and not providing enough juice.

Not sure what lights come on? Guy works odd shifts wont see him until tomorrow afternoon I will ask him then ;)

He was driving it not very long ago always ran fine but if he left it the battery would go dead.

I've had this a few times whfb the battery terminals aren't tightened properly . I'd double check the terminals and try to jump start it.
I estimate this car needs £3000 maybe £4000 spending on it to get it rite and when this is done it will be wotrth about £1500!!

I'd put money on the battery being knackered too.

Although I gave first Dibs to Al just been reminded by my other half I am just advertising this for my neighbour and it wasnt really fair to promise first dibs as that's not for me to promise. Sorry Al :(
Had a fair bit of interest in this including a fair few PM's I will pass them all on to the owner in order of who asked but ultimately its up to the owner as its his car not mine. He may choose first he may choose who can pick it up first or who is nearest? Who knows?
Thanks for the interest lets get this one saved ;)

Almost def the battery. I have 4 1 year old batteries down the side of my house because I left them in a car for 6 months which killed them completely. Wouldn't take one iota of charge. It only took me 4 years to learn my lesson!!
