Specs You've Never Heard Of Before.

We've got "cars you didn't know existed" so now what about "specs and trims you've never heard of". I'm talking about cars you know exist, cars that are common, cars you see every day and you know the trims they come in mainly like LX, Ghia, SRi, but maybe you've seen one in a spec you've never seen before. Also maybe other members have heard of them and can explain what they are.

I'll start obviously, and I'm going back in my mind to 2002 when I remember reading the Motoring section in a newspaper and seeing models I've never heard of or even seen before or since.

Local Ford dealer had a P reg Renault Clio for sale, it was listed as a 1.4 "Champs Elysees" which I obviously know is in Paris but I've never heard of or seen another Clio this spec since.

Local Renault dealer was advertising a 51 reg Renault Espace 2.2 DCI "The Race"

A Citroen dealer was advertising a W reg Renault Clio 1.6 "Etoile"

Local Ford dealer group were doing a deal on Ford Ka "Klass"

Others were Rover 25/45 Olympic and Olympic S. Mk3 Ford Mondeo "Mistral" and the Vauxhall dealer by dad bought his mk3 Astra from in 2000 had a mk3 N reg Gold on the forecourt and the card in the window with details on said it was a "Rolling Stone"

Apparently all these cars I've mentioned aren't dealer specials and actually proper factory spec editions that were delivered to dealers like that and not created in the dealers workshop.

Mardi Gras was Peugeot rather than VW was it not?

Tell you one that was a dealer special edition and is responsible for the wanky (Un)Limited Edition spec Corsas, the Corsa PVR (Peter Vardy Racing) Peter Vardy being a 6 site Vauxhall dealer group up here and grandson of Reg Vardy. He bought a batch of unsold white 2009 Corsa 1.2 Club 3 doors, fitted the VXR styling pack, black Team Dynamics multi-spoke alloys and painted the roof etc black and they sold like hotcakes, Vauxhall were impressed and stole the idea for themselves and created the Limited Edition but based on SXi spec rather than Club so it had sports seats, front fogs, visible chrome exhaust tailpipe, leather steering wheel, cruise and trip computer.

A friend of mine bought a Rolling Stones Golf brand new. ISTR VW sponsored the Stones 'Voodoo Lounge' tour and apart from the graphics, you got a prize draw to win VIP tickets to a show........(my mate didn't win).

It was actually a pretty dull low trim model so maybe you could call that a win.

Surprising, given how little mainstream appeal the music has, how may cars have names like Be-Bop, Getz and even Jazz. There was a recent radio programme covering this subject and they concluded that its about 'Jazzing up' things that are otherwise fairly wank. I'd say they're about right, at least with the cars. Have I missed any Jazz names other than the (Louis) Armstrong Siddely?

My Hyundai Stellar is a 'Gold Medal Edition.'  It differs little from a GSL, except for external graphics, available colours (metallic gold - actually more like bronze), special gold alloys and a gold medallion stuck to the dashboard.  It commemorates the 1988 Olympics which were held in Seoul, South Korea.

I love those Zero Credibility Vauxhall 'speshal idisions'. A neighbour had an Irmscher grill put on his coupe. So what? Who are Irmscher? Who are MSD? What does 888 mean? Is Peter Vardy a racing driver? Why did he pick such a lame chassis to put his name to?

Naff cars. Naff name.

Agreed!! LOL

Irmscher is a German Vauxhall/Opel styling/tuning parts Company, MSD is Motorsport Developments who made for example, some Vectra SRis into GSi MSD models by fitting electric recaro seats, some badges and plaques and different cams and a different body kit I think. 888 is TripleEight Race Engineering who tinkered with the performance of some "sporty" Vauxhalls and Peter Vardy is a Vauxhall dealer group founded by the grandson of Reg Vardy after Sir Peter sold the original company to Pendragon. Yes I've an unhealthy interest in Vauxhalls, there I said it!!

I might do a 'Sierraman Special' Corsa, deleted radio, electric windows and no air con. They'll be pale yellow with the shittest hubcaps I can find, the only concession to 'special' there'll be will be a stripe I'll apply. There will be only 500 made and they will be £15,995. This will be a reflection of the shit heritage I'll be giving my name to.

Well not really, not when 888 were running and winning the BTCC with Astra Coupes at the time. I suspect a Racing Puma is a better car, though slower, but at least Vauxhall were making an effort.

Did MSD run the racing BTCC Vectras? I can't recall. DC Cook Racing and Ecurie Ecosse ran Cavs, then Ray Mallock then eventually 888 but I don't know about MSD. I think they ran the Accords for a year or two.

Irmscher use to be a pukka racing time, like Abarth with Fiats, but were bought out and now it's a name to a spoiler, sports grille etc.

He sounds a lot more agreeable than the flailing of the 'chain gang', I'd never heard him before. What a superb instrument the trombone can be. Still with Canadian brass players, I saw Ingrid JENSEN a few years ago, excellent, and eligible for mention here. Sort of.

Sold a Renault Clio Ripcurl a few months ago - Ripcurl decals, red cloth on the side of the front seats, USB/AUX stereo and that thing all 17 year olds crave - a rubber boot liner :D

A lad at work has a Citroen Cactus Rip-Curl,that has ripcurl wallpaper on the front and rear wings.

I'm trying to remember the Ford special editions done on the focus and fiesta. I seen them a lot around 2006 when I was delivering to a Ford dealers. I think it was the gtr. Based on an lx but with alloys, body trim and stickers. The fiesta didn't have electric windows either.

I think it was actually properly tuned, had new suspension, blue interior, different body kit. 888 are a tuning company like Prodrive, they build the Vauxhall BTCC cars. It wasn't just a badge, which probably isn't actually in line with the thread.

Like the Puma Racing, you had to prove ownership before you could buy parts from the dealer for it.

It's funny because the Cavalier SRI had a really good name back in the day, they should have stuck with it instead of bringing out all this no-name shit.

Had the misfortune a few months ago to be in the Vauxhall Dealers buying some breathers for a Corsa C. They had all the regalia in the brochures for the Irmscher stuff, a lot of the 'Yoofs' seem to go in for it, again I found it odd because you couldn't pull the wool over their eyes with a pair of Kelvin Kline pants, why they went in for paying £300 for a bumper skirt I'll never know. This 'Irmscher' stuff obviously carries a lot of weight with children these days.
