raggerminder
1992 ZX Aura 1.6i Manual74k. MOT until Dec 2017 (no advisories on the current MOT) Well loved (I've had it for a full year!), lots of service history including cam belt in 2015 at 63k.In the last year it has had 4 new tyres, an exhaust back box, a new battery and a service costing nearly £500!This car is lovely to drive and looks pretty good for 25 years old - at least I think so - but it is 25 so there are always things that could be done to improve it.The passenger side front window doesn't want to open any more so the car will come with a brand new replacment regulator. There are a couple of scratches on the bonnet and the correct Speedline alloys aren't showroom fresh, but it is remarkably free of dents and scrapes and there really doesn't appear to be any tin worm concerns anywhere. The interior is complete and lovely and the sunroof works and is watertight I am selling because I have bought a Xantia ('cos I've not had one of those). Location is Darlington. Happy to collect from the station or Durham Tees Valley Airport (Goosepool Aerodrome) Price- £575 If I didn't already own it and three other Cits, I would be prepared to pay more for it. Sorry, not interestred in a raffle or swaps no matter how tempting. stripped fred, beko1987, theorganist and 14 others
loserone
That looks lovely, I hope you have terrible luck with the sale and drop the price in a couple of months, but I won't hold out much hope! D Spares & Tyres

bramz7
That is a stunner. I really regret selling my early Avantage. Good luck with the sale. For some reason ZXs are high insurance for me so I can't even entertain the idea of buying it.
beko1987
That is lovely. Always a soft spot for a ZX, the day the gooner breaks in a scary way if one of these is cheap and available it'll be my go to safe car choice!

Jim Bell
That does look bonny. Is that basically a Peugeot 206 1.6 gti engine or did Citroen have their own?
stripped fred
Is the aura the basic spec or was that the reflex?
forddeliveryboy
Aura meant, "stand in awe at PSA luxury". Reflex was pov-spec. They were lambasted by the motoring press for their ease of understanding, general boring-ability, metal suspension and inability to replace the GS, yet turned out to be the least-Peugeot of the made-from-Pug modern Citroens despite the lack of LHM. raggerminder
In amongst the documentation, I have a "Car" magazine Giant Test comparing the ZX Aura with Golf 1.8, Escort 1.8 and Mitsubishi 1.6 from June 1992; the conclusions are quite interesting. The Golf is dismissed as slow "dowdy and frumpy"! It concludes that: "What wins the day for the ZX is its superior ride, handling and all round poise." nacho man
That is lush x one billionty. Please please pretty please raffle it away so I can buy some tickets. Mrs T would blow a gasket if I paid full doller after I turned up with a scooter, she thinks it was only cheap as well.

HillmanImp
I don't even like ZXs but I like this. It looks lovely. My cousin is looking for a cheap runabout but this is probably too nice so the search continues.
forddeliveryboy
It's interesting that what felt very mundane 25 years ago, nowadays feels beautifully lightweight, pure, fun and quite interesting. I think CAR got it wrong (see my quote from them below) in the sense that even when new, the ZX had a strong identity (not easy when you're building a car from another makers' bits and have to be the budget brand) and a feeling of quality in both design and build. I first drove one in about '94 and providing I didn't think of it as the GS successor, liked it a lot. This one looks a belter, definitely would if could. Don't imagine it will be for sale for long. Just to balance CAR mag's take on the ZX and to prove I hadn't remembered it all wrong (the longer you live, the more doubt about the accuracy of your memory creeps in!), as well as making the car a Giant Test winner when pitted agin a '92 Golf, Escort and Mitsi, they said this: ‘I can’t imagine,’ said someone from Citroën at the ZX‘s launch, ‘that anyone who drives our car will have anything to complain about.’ Well I, for one, will grumble. However good the ZX may be (and it is very good), it's not a car to hold your interest. As far as Citroën is concerned, it's hardly a car at all. It's a product, an appliance, carefully tailored to existing consumer demand in market segment Mi. The buyers know what they like, and Citroën has inferred that they like only what they know. So the ZX is just what they know, a little better all round, but no different. It is, in short, a marginally improved competitor to Bland X. The danger the ZX faces is its perilously short potential lifespan: before long there’ll be a new Golf, a new Astra, a new 309, several new Japanese, and any or all of these could well better the ZX, leaving Citroën floundering for a replacement. The piece finished talking about the ZX and what it was replacing by saying, "The very thought of it all makes the ZX seem like a wasted opportunity." I'm not knocking the ZX - I rate them highly - but back then CAR magazine did have journalists who weren't scared to pen their feelings freely - it's a large part of what made the magazine such a hit all over the world. Little surprise they found a ZX better than a '92 Escort or Golf. egg and raggerminder

angle
Little surprise they found a ZX better than a '92 Escort or Golf. This is my old one, which I bought after owning a Mk4 Escort, a Mk5 Escort and a Mk6 Escort. It was a fucking revelation. Same spec as this one too. forddeliveryboy and Lacquer Peel
