Sad days, but I've decided it has to go. My Mk1 Golf GTi.

It's been sitting in a nice, dark, dry lock up for the last 3 years. I just don't use it, it's too nice to use...1983 Mk1 Golf GTi 1.8 in black. 155k miles, was restored to original condition four or five years ago. Completely standard in every way other than having had hydraulic tappets fitted and an acoustic shelf. Hydraulic tappets make it sound perfect and save hours faffing about with shims and feeler gauges, it's a no-brainer for a car that's meant to be used.Proper 13" alloys, incredibly rare optional steering wheel, green tinted glass, factory steel sunroof, MFA, 4 lamp grille, no rot, never been welded, proper VW exhaust system, everything on it is genuine VW - Nothing from GSF / ECP etc. Everything works as it should. Been looked after money no object, £210 receipt for wheel alignment alone. One small dent on drivers side rear 1/4 panel, I'm going to get that fixed before sale. One seam on the passenger seat backrest is beginning to open up, I'll get that seen to as well. Not a show queen, it's waxoiled on the inner wings for example, doesn't look 'show' but it's how they left the factory. Odd bit of tidying up to do under the bonnet, the injector pipes look scruffy because they've never been sprayed with oil - it doesn't leak oil.Not got any pics at the moment because it's still in the garage covered in dust, I'll give it a clean during the week and post 'em up if anyone is interested. Scene tax has to be paid unfortunately, I'm not giving the thing away, but it's gonna be around £3k fully serviced and with 12 months MOT. A one owner, 60k mile onw in similar condition just went for £5995 on Pistonheads.

That is as it is after a 2 minute wash after sitting in a garage for 3 years gathering dust.

I don't think £3k is 'scene tax' for one this clean 8)

That'll be with 12 months MOT and a full going over type service.

Where are the silver stripes along the lower door/rear quarter?

I asked the chap who I bought it from, who restored it, the very same question. His answer was that he'd spent a long time looking for a perfect door for it and all the GTi doors were rotten where the stripes go - so he didn't stripe it up.
