SiC
Sadly the 'Rory Reid generation' (actually he is late-thirties, but you wouldn't have thought it!) have an entrenched knock British things attitude since cars became status symbols and not transport. Your car must be prestige German or you're already failing at life. I'm in probably what you'd call the Rory Reid generation as someone in their early 30s. When I was growing up, British cars to me were a (new at the time) Montego estate that was my dads company car - which had really irritating squeaky suspension, newish Metro/100 that my Grandad had which forever broke down and the original Mini (one of the last) that was hideously uncomfortable, noisy and you knew you were going to die in an accident. By the time I started driving in 2002-2003, British was Rovers that felt cheap and were cheap, MGs that were kinda cool but still a bit naff and crusty BL tat that was mostly on its last legs. However Japanese cars was about Supras, Skylines, FTOs, Integra Type-Rs and S2000. flat4alfa and The Reverend Bluejeans

The Reverend Bluejeans
If we're being completely truthful, the Dolomite Sprint wasn't that great. They were known for iffy handling and grim brakes plus of course legendary* reliability. But that's nothing that can't be sorted in 2017 to produce a decent fun car so Rory Reid can fuck right off. It's the same misinformed bone idle smartarse journalism that proved the ha ha ha worst cars ever made ho ho ho Allegro he he he lists. flat4alfa, richardthestag, pompei and 1 other
forddeliveryboy
Whether you think it has some potential to last another few years or not, speeding up the playback works well. They all seem to speak slowly and anything from 1.3-1.6x worked best at making things seem a little more normal. I'm not convinced that LB or Reid have ever thought very deeply about motor cars at all other than when asked to come up with some ideas for TG scripts, which surely is as important as being able to act, if you host a car show. Not seen the newnewnewnew series until now. Pretty wooden, no chemistry between the presenters, and hardly any technical discussion. The only reasonably ok part was Joey's review of the 124 vs. MX5. Still quite painful though. Bring back Plato, Needell and Butler Henderson and a newbie in a new TG-type show. Seriously. At least they had a genuine passion for everything motors, had persona and a half-decent on-screen chemistry. The Reverend Bluejeans

For Fiats Sake
Well I'm warming to the new core presenting team on this series. The bit that annoys me is the guest sitting on the sofa whilst other segments are aired, just seems a bit rude and disrespectful to me, it's not the awful one show is it! The BBC will keep going and twiddling with it as it made them so much money in the past, it's a world wide show for them. We should be grateful as the more money they make the less they will want* from us via the license fee.

I don't understand the love of the Golf gti or cars so expensive I'll never own one. One thing I don't get at all though is how no-one has yet asked Joey how he's doing? Captain Furious
Is Ant Anstead the one who did that thing about classic cars with Phillip Glenister a while back? He was good in that and did some absolutely stellar work on the cars they had, Glenister was pretty awful presenting though. I'm getting my motoring fix from Car SOS at the moment. IMO the programme showed him doing little work.He would turn up at a lockup and pay thousands for a mk1 Escort 'Mexico' because it came with a VIN plate in a shoe box, then next we would see him trial fitting a roof skin in his Sunday best, then it was done! Captain Furious
Well, yeah now you mention it there wasn't a great deal of action scenes, really I was basing it on one section where it showed him repairing the front end and aligning the bonnet on the Mk1 Escort, if Mike Brewer is planning on purchasing a Mk1 Escort that requires the bonnet aligning, he's got the best man for the job. overrun and Braddon81

richardthestag
The stag and the SD1 police car that Ant Anstead "did" were both done by Robsport That said i like his presenting skills. I liked glen philipster also in that series. As for NNNTG this series is better than last series but is still mainly like a local amateur Dramatics group trying too hard to copy Clarkson top gear while cutting out the bits that the director general doesnt think are relevant any more. I think they have all the right bits but they need clarkson and wilman to take control of the script.Or at least get rid of Mary Berry and Sue Perkins who at a guess are doing the script at the mo. This weeks was ok, aston bit was good until the car chase bit with the rozzers, waste of time. Rory should have driven the sprint and then the mk1 golf, very different animals but nope he chose the old "its bri'ish so itz shit" stance. never let proper journalism get in the way of a cheap gag. Can you imaging the owner pf the sprint loaning the car for a static item on NNNTG and then hearing that. He must be thinking "what a cunt!" The GTi Golf thing was a fucking great big staged yawn fest, Sabine should have got a load of DTM drivers in the other cars and then pulled that stunt. As it was I cant see even a nerdy 9 year old lad being interested in it. Tamsin is lovely but the whole set seemed to go on for ever, 'arris being a grumpy teacher doesnt work either. Though I do like his voice over commentary for the lap flat4alfa

richardthestag
just did a bit of idle googling Sprint - 0–60 mph taking around 8.4 seconds, with a maximum speed of 119 mph GTi Mk1 - 0-60 mph in 9 seconds. The top speed was of 180 km/h (some 110 mph sure the golf will do corners quicker but I reckon they are much closer matched than Rory would have us believe da 70s woz shit init edit, I had a Mk2 Golf GTi 8v thin pumper and it was an awesome machine, I need to scratch the sprint itch now The Reverend Bluejeans
