Firstly, forgive the selection of random old pictures, I will get some up to date ones including the interior this week.

 

The main details

 

Location: Huddersfield, West Yorkshire

 

1995 Subaru Impreza WRX wagon

205000ish km (about 120k miles)

MOT November - no online MOT history before this as I bought it from Northern Ireland

Taxed if you're quick

All standard except:

Cat 1 alarm

GPS tracker

Z4 ECU (approx 0.8 bar boost and 240hp - standard ecu included)

Prodrive backbox and straight through centre pipe (full standard exhaust included with sale)

Cambelt and full service done in last year

Priceless private plate included

 

Basically there is nothing wrong with this car that I know of. There is no serious grot, there is a bit of rust starting around the windscreen top, will get some pics. 

Cosmetically it has a few small dings, nothing major.

Interior has a few holes that have been stitched back up, I think one of the previous owners had a dog.

I love this car but I've had my fun and bought something else.

Can be insured on classic with Footman James for <£200 unless you're Jim the crim.

£1500 supplied on these here pictured wheels with legal but supershit tyres that don't hold air for very long

Not really shite money I know, but as cheap as you'll find one of these, and they're getting rare in unruined condition.

Now that's got my juices flowing - I keep searching these on ebay and I prefer the early ones and I want an import hnmnnggg.... I just really didn't want a silver one.

 

Thinking out loud here but I don't suppose you'd be interested in an Alfa GTV V6 & some cash my way?

Ah, bollocks. This looks great but I bet it'll be gone by the time I come back from my holiday.

 

And it's come at the worst bloody time for me financially (but is the specification of Impreza I really want).

I can live in hope of a wonderous unknown tax rebate, all my parts selling and a massive bonus from my employer for them horribly exploiting years of loyalty.

J-T: thanks but needs to be a cash sale, replacement already sorted.

 

The only PX I could consider would be 2 wheeled as I could probably squeeze one more in the garage.

 

Duganabe Corporation: its not advertised anywhere else yet so you never know, PM me if you have some sort of plan with a reasonable timescale, I'm not under too much pressure to get it gone.

Bloody hell, how did i miss this !

Aah well.

 

Just a quick question whilst i'm here - What are these like to own / used daily ? , as seen one locally to potentially replace the V70.

Fuel cost doesn't put me off, but can / will it return superb reliability >?

A decent one will be utterly dependable, however a neglected one will empty your wallet pretty effectively so buy on condition and make sure you employ a decent mong filter for the owners.

 

I've seen a few absolutely hanging ones at the shiter price point but occasionally a clean one.

 

UK cars easier to insure but not as quick.

 

Also make sure you know what it is you are looking at, there are 1,000,000 different versions from wrx through sti with varying levels of power, chassis tweaks and equipment

I would say yes, there is no reason you couldn't drive one daily if you could cope with <20mpg.

 

Never really had too many issues with the 2 I had, and both were purchased at the bottom end of the market. 

 

Did have the clutch go on the first one, but it would have been apparent if I'd driven it prior to purchase (high pedal and big judder)

 

Rust is a big one, rear arches, sills, floors - both UK and imports. 

 

Try to avoid one that's had too many daft modifications, although you can't be too picky at the bottom end.

 

Consider a Forester S-turbo for more space and even less mpg, with a slightly reduced risk of scally former owners.

Well it hasn't broke down yet.... (famous last words)

 

So far there's just been the usual old car issues; rear lights leaking, central locking sometimes doesn't, general squeaks rattles & decrepitude. But seeing as I've so far spent entirely 0 mins attempting to fix any of it, I can't really complain!

 

Fuel costs aren't good as they are geared really low so in 5th it's pretty much always on boost (I think 80mph is over 4000rpm) but I don't think anyone ever bought one for their economy!

I resealed the rear lights when I had it, it's just a bit of a rubbish design, the water from the roof drains directly down onto the lights.

 

The stuff I used is called Carafax non-setting mastic, it's used to seal awnings to caravans.

 

Sikaflex or similar sets solid but some flex is needed, hence the caravan stuff is recommended.

 

BTW J-T, I'll send you a PM later about the tracker as it's text me a few times to say low battery!

Price of these is gonna rocket* when they hit 25yrs old 'cos lots of Subie fanboys in the US will finally be able to import them and not have to take an old non-turbo and put an eBay bought JDM motor in it.

 

*I could be talking complete bolox but 25 yr+ land rovers are selling for $20k+ here. I recon a top end of $12k for a nice STi as 2005 cars are still selling for $18k even with space shuttle miles!

Yes, that and more depending on what they have had done to them. Specifically the defender - the ones with the improved suspension over the 'series' landys and preferably petrol engines. RHD with LHD commanding an even greater premium.

 

One just came into my local garage for $5k+ worth of work. With the value on them, it's more than worth while.

At the moment, the customs guys know that the galvanized chassis models aren't old enough yet and they also look for replacement chassis which is also a big no-no.

 

They can't tell a swapped engine (like for like) but can if you put say a v8 into a four.

 

Generally manatined cars are allowed in, but restored ones aren't (hence the chassis swap for a galvanized one being rejected).

 

Some with hooky paperwork have been crushed as a show of intent.

 

Try finding a greater than 25yr old Landy in LHD that has the original chassis. You might be surprised at how spendy it is!

 

Only limited numbers of landys made it here up to 1973ish and then very little until 1997. The 1997 US origin cars are crazy money!
